Gay priest denied NHS job licence after wedding

The first British priest to marry a same-sex partner says he is "very disappointed" that his licence to work as an NHS chaplain was refused.

Jeremy Pemberton, who currently works as a Chaplain in Lincolnshire, wanted to change practice to Sherwood hospital's NHS trust in Nottingham.

However, the area's acting Bishop, the Rt Revd Richard Inwood, said it was "not appropriate" to issue a license to someone in holy orders who had entered a same-sex marriage.

The trust said it was considering its response after receiving the bishop's letter on 7 July, then withdrew the job offer on 1 August.
