Newcastle Airport invites boy to visit air traffic control

Eight-year-old Max wrote to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) before Christmas to say he wanted to build his own airport in Tynemouth.

They loved Max's enthusiasm and grand plans, so invited him to visit Newcastle Airport for a day of aviation fun.

That happened on Friday 23 February, when Max got to visit the control tower, watch planes land, chat to the controllers and even put out a drill fire with the airport's fire crew.

Rob Crawford, Media Lead at the CAA, said: "When Max's letter came through, it put a smile on everyone's face. We don't get letters like that very often."

He added: "Working with Newcastle Airport, we've been able to put on this day for Max and I think he's had an absolutely fantastic day."
