Spending Review: Defence and intelligence budgets
Britain has "the finest armed forces in the world - and we intend to keep it that way", the chancellor has said in his Spending Review.
George Osborne said the government would get "the maximum value for money" from one of the largest defence budgets in the world.
He said the civilian workforce would be reduced, and that there would be an overhaul to buying equipment, but there would be no cuts to the numbers of soldiers, sailors and airmen, and that they would get the "best kit to do their job".
And Mr Osborne said there would be an increase in money for the intelligence services.
