EU referendum: Sir John Major says 'UK safer and more influential in EU'
The UK would be less safe, less well off and less influential if it were to leave the EU, Sir John Major has told the BBC.
The former prime minister told The Andrew Marr Show that the UK would "survive" an exit from the union but that it would have to "face the consequences".
His comments follow the revelation that former defence secretary Liam Fox will vote for the UK to leave the European Union.
