  1. Officer 'had trouble sleeping' after attackpublished at 10:11 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

A police officer from Milton Keynes said he had difficulty sleeping after a drink-driver he arrested tried to strangle him.

It comes as new figures show that assaults on officers in the Thames Valley Police area increased by a third last year to more than 900.

The figure rose from 686 assaults in 2014/15.

PC Justin Cohen said that the assaults "are just horrible".

"I'd say that at least two weeks after the assault, I was having nightmares," he said.

"I just could not sleep. I had difficulty wearing collars too.

"Just last week I got spat at and the person who spat at me was laughing saying they had hepatitis and I was going to get it."

Owen, who will become a vice-president, said: "I have taken the decision with a heavy heart because of my love of LTFC.

  20. Milton Keynes cycle scheme 'in doubt' after vandalismpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 3 August 2017

    Stuart Bailey
    BBC News

A company which sponsors a cycle scheme in Milton Keynes is threatening to pull out because of "extensive vandalism".

The bank Santander backed the project, which allows people to hire bikes and return them at docking stations across the town.

The scheme began last June to provide people an alternative way to get around.

But Santander says, since then, more than £200,000 of damage has been caused by vandals, who've used pickaxes, hammers and even angle grinders.

Line of Santander bikes in Milton Keynes.

Chief marketing officer Keith Moor said: "The scheme is in doubt now because of the extensive vandalism.

"We’ve got over half the bikes out of circulation and that’s unsustainable going forward.

"This scheme isn’t paid for by the council out of council tax - we have to fund this scheme ourselves."

The company is now considering the viability of the scheme and has published a list of docking stations, external that have been temporarily closed.
