    A few isolated showers across the BBC East region this evening, but these will die away to leave much of the night dry with clear spells, and perhaps a few mist patches forming.

    Southwesterly winds will ease overnight, with temperatures falling to 10C (50F) in the countryside.

    After a dry and bright start to Tuesday, increasing cloud will bring a few scattered showers from the southwest, some heavy with perhaps hail and thunder, but interspersed with sunshine.

    A woman and her two children who died in a crash in north Devon this morning are understood to be from the Milton Keynes area according to police.

    Police were called to the A361 near Barnstaple at 08:25 BST after the woman's car hit an oncoming lorry.

    The woman's husband was travelling in a separate vehicle and saw the crash unfolding behind him.

    A new memorial to the Hertfordshire Regiment has been unveiled to mark the centenary of the start of the Third Battle of Ypres.

    Today marks 100 years since the first day of the battle, which is also known as Passchendaele, external.

    The Herts at War, external community history project unveiled the monument to the Hertfordshire Regiment at the battlefield in Belgium.

    Chequers Bridge is to close tonight for three weeks for overnight maintenance work by Network Rail.

    The bridge in Langley is where Market Lane meets Mansion Lane and Hollow Hill Lane.

    Network Rail is repairing structural damage to the bridge. It will be shut each night from 22:00 to 06:00 BST.

    Diversions will be in place during these times.

  19. 'Dead mouse' stalker's sentencing on hold for psychologist's reportpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    A woman who sent a dead mouse to her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend needs to see a psychologist, a court has heard.

    As we reported, Poppy Carter, 29, was found guilty of stalking Carly Bradbury at St Albans Crown Court.

    The seven-month campaign saw her send Miss Bradbury a dead mouse in a jiffy bag, damage her work van, post sinister cards to Miss Bradbury and employ a private investigator to find out where she lived.

    This morning, Recorder Leslie Cuthbert adjourned sentence for a psychological assessment.

    He warned Carter, of Upper Lattimore Road, St Albans, a custodial sentence was "uppermost in his mind".

  20. Body of man pulled from riverpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    The body of a man has been pulled from the river in Bedford this morning.

    Emergency services were called to the Embankment at about 05:00.

    The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Bedfordshire Police, external said they are not treating the death as suspicious, but have asked anyone with information to come forward.

    It is the third death in the Great Ouse in the town within the past month.

    A week ago, a man drowned while swimming near Priory Marina.

    Five days previously another man was found dead in the river. One person remains on police bail in connection with that incident.
