    A woman who sent a dead mouse in a jiffy bag to her ex-partner's girlfriend has been convicted of stalking her.

    St Albans Crown Court, external heard Poppy Carter, 29, had also sent Carly Bradbury sinister and anonymous cards and damaged her vehicle.

    The hate campaign took place over a seven-month period in 2016, the court heard.

    Carter, of Upper Lattimore Road in St Albans, had denied stalking, but a jury of eight women and four men found her guilty of the charge.

    The jury heard she sent cards depicting a cat closely watching a goldfish in a goldfish bowl.

    At one point, she employed a private investigator to find out where her ex-boyfriend Alex Roberts and his new girlfriend were living, the court head.

    Prosecutor Daniel Wright said finding the dead mouse "belly up" in a jiffy bag had been an "extremely distressing and frightening thing to find" for Miss Bradbury.

    Carter is yet to be sentenced.

    A comedian has completed his 100-mile walk to raise funds for Stand Up To Cancer.

    He started out in The Chilterns near Dunstable last Monday and finished at Avebury Henge on Saturday.

    His wife Kristin and son Dax joined him for the six-day trek which has raised more £8,445 for the cancer charity, external.

    Bailey thanked all those who have supported him along the way and donated funds.

  3. Herts Police bucks traffic officers trendpublished at 10:00 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    Hertfordshire's police force has bucked the trend by increasing its number of dedicated traffic police officers, figures have revealed.

    Nationally, statistics obtained by the Press Association's Freedom of Information (FOI) request, show numbers have fallen by 24% since 2012 and by 30% since 2007.

    A number of forces increased the number of traffic officers between 2007 and 2012, but as budget cuts bit these numbers were reduced between 2012 and 2017, the figures show.

    The number of traffic officers at Bedfordshire Constabulary, external has dropped from 81 in 2007 to 47 today. At Thames Valley Police, external, the figure has decreased from 239 in 2007 to 187 today.

    Hertfordshire Police, external has increased its traffic officers by 44%. It now has 95 traffic officers, compared to 66 a decade ago.

    It is one of the only forces to increase numbers, along with Northumbria (up 32%), West Mercia (up 26%) and Surrey (up 14%).

    Strictly Come Dancing star Ian Waite hosted the ultimate show reunion as he tied the knot with partner Drew Merriman in Bedfordshire at the weekend.

    He welcomed the BBC1 show judge Craig Revel Horwood, fellow pro dancers Natalie Lowe and Anton Du Beke, and his own former show partners Zoe Ball and Denise Lewis to the star-studded ceremony.

    After walking down the aisle at the 18th Century Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey, he told Hello!, external magazine: "It was the best day of my life.

    "It's been absolutely brilliant. It was so emotional to walk into the ceremony and see friends and family looking towards us."

    Other famous friends who joined in the day included BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, former swimmer Mark Foster, and dancers Erin Boag, Vincent Simone, Camilla Sacre-Dallerup, Matthew Cutler, Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova.

  5. Taxi driver hurt in 'unproved attack'published at 08:45 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    As we've been reporting a teenage boy has been arrested after a taxi driver was sprayed in the eyes with an unknown substance.

    The incident happened at about 01:00 in George Street, High Wycombe, yesterday.

    Thames Valley Police, external said the taxi driver is in hospital with "serious injuries" to the eyes.

    Det Ch Insp Kelly Glister said: "This is an unprovoked attack on a working man who was going about his evening shift as a taxi driver.

    "It is cowardly for a group to attack an individual, especially when they use a weapon.

    "The victim is currently in hospital with serious injuries to his eyes. At this stage it is too early to establish what the substance is that was used to attack him."

    She said the offenders are three black males in their mid-to-late teens.

    A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

    A 15-year-old boy is in police custody after a taxi driver was sprayed in the eyes with an unknown substance.

    The taxi driver, a 43-year-old man, dropped off three customers in George Street, High Wycombe, at about 01:00 on Sunday.

    Thames Valley Police, external said the customers exited the taxi, a black Toyota Prius, without paying so the driver followed them, and they then paid.

    However, one of the customers then sprayed an unknown substance in the taxi driver's eyes, police said.

    The customers fled the scene in an unknown direction.

    The boy was arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
