    Matthew Lockwood
    BBC Three Counties Radio

A petition's been started against plans to reduce the number of fast train services from Bedfordshire into London.

Under the plans, East Midlands Trains which currently stop at Bedford, Luton and Luton Airport Parkway, would be scrapped in peak hours.

They would be replaced by new, less frequent "commuter trains".

The Department for Transport says the proposed changes to the East Midlands Rail Franchise from 2019, will improve passenger journeys.

    East Midlands Train

I spoke to commuters at Bedford station this morning and they told me it would mean their journey time doubling.

One woman said it would be "an absolute nightmare" if the plans go ahead.

Ben Foley started the petition, he lives in Bedford and works in Leicester.

He said: "Luton and Bedford passengers deserve better than to be herded on to cattle trucks, expected to stand for an hour while sniffing someone's armpit."
