    It is not yet known how long it will take to extinguish a fire on farmland.

    The woodchip fire at Oak Farm in Rugeley, has been smouldering for more than two weeks.

    More than 150 residents packed into Rugeley Community Fire Station last night to question councillors and health officials. 

    Many said they were  worried the smoke may carry toxins - fears acknowledged by firefighters.

    A Birmingham mum whose teenage son was stabbed to death three years ago is taking part in a special BBC Crimewatch programme tonight about an increase in knife crime. 

    Joshua Ribera, 18, was killed near a Selly Oak nightclub that was holding a party to commemorate Mr Ribera's friend - 16-year-old Kyle Sheehan, who himself was killed in a stabbing.

  5. Supermarket fined £20k for mouse-infestationpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 19 September 2016

    A supermarket has been told to pay more than £20,000 over an infestation of mice.

    Nineteen mice were caught during a five day closure of Masala Bazaar in Smethwick.

    The store owners pleaded guilty to two offences of failing to protect food from rodents and their faeces and failing to control mouse activity.

    A further two charges were dismissed at Dudley Magistrates Court.

    Paul Gascoigne has been told by a judge that when he told a "joke" during a stage show he had used "the sort of insidious racism" that needed to be challenged.

    He admitted using "threatening or abusive words or behaviour" during An Evening With Gazza in Wolverhampton last year (pictured).

    Gascoigne previously denied the charge but pleaded guilty before magistrates in Dudley this morning.

    A public meeting will take place later today about a fire that has been burning in Staffordshire for two weeks.

    Thick smoke has been billowing from the fire in Slitting Mill Road in Rugeley, since the blaze began on 5 September.

    The fire service has previously said it was allowing the fire to burn in a controlled manner over fears water supplies could be contaminated.

    Councillors in Birmingham have launched an investigation into the number of rough sleepers in the city centre after an apparent surge in the number of people without accommodation.

    The latest estimate is that there are 36 people sleeping under the stars or huddled in shop doorways - up from 20 the year before. 

    Experts say the figures, which have only just been released and are based on a one-night head count last autumn, could be an underestimate.

    People who've been asked to remove flowers and marble edging from loved ones' graves say they are ready to take legal action if the orders persist.

    The longstanding dispute about Streetly Cemetery will be discussed at a meeting this evening by Walsall Council, external.

    The authority says: "Walsall follows the widely accepted lawn principle for new graves which is similar to war graves that consist of straight rows of headstones and a lawn of flat grass throughout the cemetery. 

    "The majority of people will understand there needs to be proper management of the regulations in place which need to be observed to prevent these places of remembrance from becoming disorganised and chaotic."
