    A judge has told a woman who murdered her lover when he rejected her that she "pushed" her son to kill.

    Judge Mark Wall lifted a reporting restriction so 16-year-old Kashim Nawaz could be named as the third killer of music producer Tanveer Iqbal.

    The boy has been convicted of murder along with his mother Zatoon Bibi, 37, and his father Gul Nawaz - Bibi's ex-husband.

    Ordering Bibi to serve at least 27 years in prison, the judge told her: "Your selfishness and manipulative behaviour are truly breathtaking."

    He said: "You were the one person pushing your own son to commit murder."

  3. Car boot murder: A 'carefully-planned' killingpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    A spurned mistress has been jailed for life after murdering her lover and putting his body in the boot of his car.

    Zatoon Bibi, 37, enlisted the help of her ex-husband Gul Nawaz, 45, to murder DJ and music producer Tanveer Iqbal.

    Nawaz was also handed a life term for the murder, while a 16-year-old boy was detained for six years after being convicted of the same offence at Birmingham Crown Court.

    Speaking after sentencing, Sean Kyne, District Crown Prosecutor, said: “It is clear that Tanveer Iqbal had decided to end his relationship with Zatoon Bibi, however the defendant was unable to accept this and together with her ex-husband and another person, they decided to kill him.

    “This was a premeditated killing which was carefully planned and executed with all of the defendants acting together including creating a false alibi.’’

    Commuters at Moor Street Station got a surprise this morning when the famous Flying Scotsman went through the station. 

    Built in 1923, the locomotive was saved from the scrapyard when steam was replaced by diesel in the 1960s.

    Over the last 10 years it's undergone a £4m restoration. The iconic engine is touring the UK over the next few months.

    A 140-year-old tree could be cut down to make way for a new tram line in Birmingham. 

    The tree on Broad Street is thought to be among the oldest in the city centre. 

    Transport bosses say where trees have to be removed they aim to replace them on a two-for-one basis.

  9. 'Car boot' murder: Woman killed lover in 'complicated relationship'published at 13:18 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Three people have been found guilty of the murder of a music shop owner who was found in the boot of his car.

    Tanveer Iqbal was found dead in his Renault Clio in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on 2 February. He was 33.

    His mistress, Zatoon Bibi, 37 conspired with her ex-husband, Gul Nawaz, 44 to kill him, it was heard during the trial. Both have been found guilty of murdering the DJ.

    Mr Iqbal, and Mrs Bibi had an "unconventional and complicated relationship", Birmingham Crown Court heard.

    A scheme that gets police officers involved in social work has prevented more than 8,000 offences, West Midlands Police estimates.

    The force has set up offender management teams to target prolific criminals.

    A woman who strangled her lover and put his body in the boot of his own car has been found guilty of his murder.

    Tanveer Iqbal, a DJ and music producer from Smethwick, was killed in February. 

    Zatoon Bibi, 36 - described in court as a pathological liar - enlisted the help of ex-husband Gul Nawaz to carry out her revenge after she was dumped by the victim. He and a teenage boy have also been convicted of murder.

    Two drivers have been pulled over by police on the M6 this morning for driving while watching films.

    Central Motorway Police Group said, external the first driver was reported by a member of the public having been seen near to Junction 10a on the northbound carriageway.

    After dealing with the motorist, police said, a second driver was seen by officers - and pulled over for watching a video lecture.

    The number of smokers across the West Midlands has fallen to below 16%, according to Public Health England., external

    Last year, 15.7% of adults in the region described themselves as smokers, compared with 18.3% in 2012 - a record low for the region.

    Experts say the decrease is partly due to the availability of e-cigarettes and is boosting health.
