    All the locks at Birmingham prison are being replaced following the riot on Friday.

    The estimated cost is about £750,000, BBC News understands.

    A bunch of keys, taken from a prison officer as the trouble began, was recovered, but officials remain concerned about the risk of copies being made. 

    It's thought the total cost of repairs to the four prison wings damaged in the riot, including new locks and keys, will be in the regionn of £2m. 

    Justice Secretary Liz Truss (pictured) has said that G4S, the private firm that operates the jail, will cover the costs.

    West Bromwich Albion, external defender Gareth McAuley says he has no plans to retire and is not concerned about his future at The Hawthorns.

    The Northern Ireland international is the oldest outfield player in the Premier League and despite playing every minute so far, is out of contract at the end of the season. 

    But speaking at a pre-Christmas visit to Sandwell Hospital, McAuley, 37, says he is happy to continue as he is.

    Four men have denied plotting to carry out a terror attack.

    The four were arrested during police raids in Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent in August.

    Naweed Ali, 28, of Evelyn Road, Sparkhill; Khobaib Hussain, 24, also of Evelyn Road, Sparkhill; Mohibur Rahman, 31, of High Lane, Stoke-on-Trent; Tahir Aziz, 37, of Wulstan Road, Stoke-on-Trent appeared via video link charged with a single count of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts.

    The defendants spoke only to confirm their names at the High Court and enter not guilty pleas.

    The men have been remanded in custody and are due to face trial at the Old Bailey from 27 February.

    A man's due before Sandwell magistrates today after a stand-off with police. 

    Officers and other emergency services were called to Dudley Road, in Smethwick, yesterday evening to arrest a man who had failed to appear at court over a robbery matter. 

    The 31-year-old had climbed on to a roof and the area was contained by police. 

    He eventually came down about three hours later.
