  2. Bin strike: Union challenging council at High Courtpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 18 September 2017

    Kathryn Stanczyszyn
    Political Reporter, BBC WM

The Unite union is due to appear before the High Court later as it challenges the legality of redundancy notices issued to some Birmingham City Council refuse workers.

The matter is set for a full day's hearing - but could go on until tomorrow.

Birmingham MPs keep popping up in this story, from signing an open letter criticising the council's delay in finding a resolution to a joint statement on Friday saying further talks would take place with the conciliation service Acas.

Since the contentious redundancy notices, some workers tell me council letters have been issued to them that are designed, they say, to "intimidate". The letters warn workers that the council "will no longer accept partial performance from employees" outside of industrial action.
