    Shrewsbury Town's Arthur Gnahoua says tonight's Checkatrade Trophy game with Blackpool is more important to his development than the recent FA Cup tie with West Ham.

    He signed from non-League Kidderminster in the summer and has featured regularly in Town's trophy-run.

    Gnahoua also came on as a sub against West Ham and said it was "the biggest game of my career", but hasn't made many starts in the league.

    Crewe Alexandra defender Michael Raynes says the players will have to support each other and be prepared to play out of position, when injuries hit.

    The club has one of the smallest squads in League Two and that could limit the options for manager David Artell.

    Armed police made an arrest in Stoke-on-Trent this afternoon, after reports someone was believed to have a gun.

    An 18-year-old from Birmingham is in custody on suspicion of having a firearm after being detained on Leveson Road in the Hanford area.

    Hereford FC have agreed to release goalkeeper Alex Harris, so he can find first-team football elsewhere.

    The club said the decision was made after a meeting between the player and manager Peter Beadle.

    It added that they were parting on good terms and thanked him for his commitment.

    He was 35-year-old Sean Kieran McCarthy from Cheddleton.

    Tamworth castle is getting nearly£500,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to pay for a new gallery about the Saxons.

    It will feature pieces of the Staffordshire hoard, alongside artefact's from the museum's own collection.

    The new exhibition will include a film about battles, an interactive exhibits and displays to describe everyday Saxon life.

    Some of the money will also be spent on conservation work to the castle building, a Saxon tour of the town and a festival.

    The prime minister says action will be taken to help homeowners challenge high charges on some new-build estates.

    She made the promise to introduce legislation after a question from the Conservative MP for Telford, Lucy Allan in parliament today.

    The number of cars being stolen in the West Midlands is on the rise, according to latest figures.

    West Midlands Police dealt with more than 18,000 car thefts in 2016 - an 11% increase on the previous year.

    Figures in Warwickshire went up by 17%, with 1,321 recorded.

    Nationally, almost 250,000 cars were broken into in 2016.

    Meanwhile Staffordshire, Cheshire and West Mercia Police forces have seen a reduction in reported car thefts.

    Ben Baker-Barnes might only be seven years old, but he's ready for life as an architect.

    His love of Lego building went to the next level when he drew out a plan for a new house in his back garden for his toys and to do his homework in.

    Mum said "no" to the build but he decided to send his designs to his local council in Dudley for planning permission.

    Planning officers considered the application and they too said no, but spotted his budding talent for building.

    They were so impressed, they urged him to enter a national competition - which he won - and now want to include his ideas in future plans for regeneration.

    His winning entry to the World Town Planning Day Schools Competition was a design to create a farm shop, milkshake bar and aquarium on a derelict piece of land on Wolverhampton Street in Dudley.

    Though the town planner says the land is privately owned - the council is looking at open spaces in the surrounding area and looking "to incorporate Ben's ideas".

  17. Armed police continue stand-offpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    A woman taken to hospital following a "domestic incident" in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this morning has been treated for leg and facial injuries, say police.

    Armed officers remain on Ruxley Road and a lone man remains inside the house.

    A cordon is place on Werrington Road and additional officers are on duty in the local area to reassure members of the public.

    The first baby has been born at one of Shropshire's midwife-led maternity units since they reopened on New Year's Day.

    The six-month closure of the units in Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Oswestry was blamed on staffing issues, and more midwives have since been hired to fill the gaps in the rota.

    But the long-term future of the units is still under discussion, with the majority of births taking place in Telford and Shrewsbury.
