    Virgin Trains has announced that it has stopped selling the Daily Mail newspaper on its West Coast trains.

    A spokesperson for Virgin said it regularly reviewed products sold on its trains, adding that "after listening to feedback from our people" it decided to stop stocking copies of the paper.

    A Daily Mail spokesman called the decision "disgraceful".

    The Virgin spokesperson added that when it stocked the paper, it only sold one copy for every four trains.

    A 999 call was made by a dog in what police have labelled a fluke incident, external.

    It came from the Jackfield area near Ironbridge on Sunday, and when the operator tried to speak to the caller, no one responded.

    The operator phoned back immediately and spoke to a "very apologetic" woman who explained her dog had knocked the telephone off the hook and managed to phone the emergency number.

    Pub firms in Staffordshire are being urged to stop using plastic straws and stirrers on environmental grounds.

    The Burton MP Andrew Griffiths says he's written to all his local ones, external, calling for them to "help our planet".

    It's part of an ongoing campaign against the plastic straw - in September, JD Wetherspoon said it would stop automatically putting straws in drinks.

    In Scotland, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) says it's backing a campaign by MSPs for a UK-wide ban on plastic straws.

    The MCS said the number of straws and other single-use plastic items found on beaches and in seas was rising.

    A man's appeared at Worcester Crown Court accused of murdering a disabled woman in Warndon.

    Julie Fox, 51, was found dead in her bungalow in Carnforth Drive on 27 December. A post-mortem examination found she died of a head injury.

    Adrian Jenkins, 43, also from Carnforth Drive, was remanded in custody and is due to next appear at the court in March.

    Leominster Community Hospital has been closed to visitors after an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug Norovirus.

    The trust which runs the hospital said visiting had been stopped as a "preventative measure" to stem the further spread of symptoms affecting some patients.

    Norovirus saw two wards closed at the site in December.

    Anyone who has experienced vomiting or diarrhoea in the last 48 hours is asked to avoid visiting any of the hospitals in the county.

    Two women who died following a crash on the M42 on Friday are from Powys in Wales, say police who have not released their names.

    The pair, a woman in her 60s and one in her 50s, were back-seat passengers in a car that crashed with a van between junction nine at Coleshill, Warwickshire, and junction 10 for Tamworth, Staffordshire.

    The van driver, a 37-year-old man from Birmingham, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and has been released under investigation.

    The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, and a third passenger, a man in his 30s, were uninjured.

    Six people, including one from Wolverhampton, have appeared in court charged with being members of banned far-right group National Action.

    The five men and one woman were charged after an inquiry involving the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

    The decision by the Government to ban National Action came into force in December 2016, making membership of the group a criminal offence carrying a sentence of up to 10 years' imprisonment.

    Former football coach Barry Bennell was a "predatory and determined paedophile" who abused young boys he trained, a court has heard.

    The ex-Crewe Alexandra coach "had pretty much unfettered access" to boys dreaming of a life in the professional game, prosecutors alleged.

    Liverpool Crown Court was told offences took place between 1979 and 1991.

    Mr Bennell, 63, who is now known as Richard Jones, denies 48 sex offence charges against him.

    Mr Bennell is on trial for 35 counts of indecent assault, 11 serious sexual assaults and two counts of attempted sexual assault.

    The trial continues.

    Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) risks adding a further £2m to an existing £19m deficit, external, a health chief says.

    The CCG's accountable officer Dr Simon Freeman says the group has overspent on areas including complex care and on the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal hospitals.

    In 2015, the CCG was put into special measures due to its poor financial position and had been working towards having a £19.4m deficit in this financial year, external.
