Commuters using Northern rail services from and to Stoke-on-Trent are facing up to three days of disruption as staff begin a fresh wave of strikes in separate disputes over "rail safety".
They're joining fellow workers at three other train firms on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport union said the disputes were over issues including the role of train guards and the extension of driver-only services.
Northern, external, which runs trains in north west and north east England, said it would run about 1,350 trains on strike days - about 60% of its normal service.

Two people have died after a light aircraft , externalcrashed in a field in Worcestershire this afternoon.
The single-engine plane came down at about 12:45 near Overbury, the ambulance service said.
Paramedics said they couldn't do anything to save either occupant - both male - and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

A Shropshire abattoir has been fined £100,000 for polluting sewers., external
Euro Quality Lambs of Dale Street, Craven Arms, was taken to court by Severn Trent Water for putting too much ammonia and phosphorous into the town's sewers.
The firm pleaded guilty to four breaches of waste release levels and were fined at Worcester Magistrates' Court on 4 January.
Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid stays in his post amid Theresa May's reshuffle but his job title has changed.
He is now Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government - "housing" has been added to the list.
In his existing role, Mr Javid was already responsible for housing.

The Environment Agency is at the scene of an overturned tanker which is leaking fuel and liquid chocolate on to a road in Herefordshire.
The lorry crashed at a roundabout at the A49 and A44 in Leominster at 11:15.
The Environment Agency said officers were working to ensure fuel and other products were contained and didn't get into the local environment.
A light aircraft has crashed in a field in Overbury, Worcestershire.
Air Traffic Control at Gloucestershire Airport says it lost contact with a light aircraft travelling inbound at about 12:40.
"Alerting action was taken with the appropriate agencies and emergency services attending the scene of the crash, at Overbury, near Tewkesbury," it said.
A woman who was walking on Bredon Hill in Worcestershire when a light aircraft crashed nearby said visibility was poor at the time.
Lizzie Ransted said she heard "a loud engine, sort of cutting out" before a loud "bang".
She said: "You couldn't see anything because the visibility's so bad.
"And then as we came back down we could see ambulances and fire engines.
"You could sort of make out it was an aircraft of some sort."
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the single-engine plane came down in a field at about 12:45. Six fire crews attended the scene.

Three years after moving into temporary buildings because their school was sinking, pupils at Colwall Primary School in Wocestershire are having lessons in a brand new £6m building.
They had to move out in 2014 when water kept getting into the Victorian-built site.
