    A man has been arrested in the Tintagel area of Cornwall by police from Staffordshire investigating indecent images.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said detectives from Staffordshire, assisted by their officers, arrested the 44-year-old man on suspicion of being in possession of indecent images as part of an on-going investigation by Staffordshire Police.

    The man was being questioned "at a police station in the Devon and Cornwall area", officers added.

    A group of teenagers from Crewe have been blamed for trouble in Congleton last night.

    Cheshire Police said flowerbeds were ripped up, eggs were thrown and people were spat at, after 19:00.

    The group of around 20 boys returned to Crewe after police warned them about their behaviour.

    Sales of the Coventry company's cars have fallen sharply, taking the firm into a loss for the three months to the end of September, it was announced earlier this week.

    The firm's Solihull plant, where it makes Range Rover and Jaguar models, is currently closed for a two-week shutdown in response to "fluctuating demand" following a move to a three-day week at the Castle Bromwich plant.

    A hospital staff member has found a simple solution to the problem of being able to have a wash in hospital.

    Healthcare assistant Susie Price suggested a carpenter could cut holes in the standard bedside tables at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, to allow wash basins to be slotted inside.

    Staff in the intensive care unit said patients sometimes struggled with bowls of water balanced on the portable tables.

    The hospital is now considering converting the tables in its other wards.

    Law students at Staffordshire University are offering free legal advice to the public.

    They'll offer their expertise on areas including housing, family, and employment law, but not criminal or immigration law, or give debt advice.

    The weekly and monthly clinics, which are supervised by the university, will be held in Stafford, HMP Stafford, Hanley and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

    Stoke City boss Gary Rowett says he's weighing up whether Sam Clucas should make his first appearance for the club against Middlesbrough tomorrow.

    The 28-year-old has been out injured since he joined the Potters from Swansea in the summer and Rowett says the player is eager to get back on the pitch.

    Telford Central fire station is going to be refurbished next year, at a cost of £12m.

    The Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority says it might have to borrow money for the two-year project and is planning to spend £500,000 on architects.

    The site at Stafford Park will be able to house an extra fire engine when the work is complete, bringing the total to three, along with other firefighting equipment.

    The plans will be discussed by the fire authority when it meets next Thursday.

  11. Woman dies in flat firepublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2018

    A woman has died in a fire at a flat in Royal Oak Lane, Bedworth, police say.

    The road remains closed in both directions due to the building fire.

    An 82-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene, said Warwickshire Police, after emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 05:30.

    It's not being treated as suspicious at this time, it said.

    A man has been taken to hospital after his van left the A50 near Uttoxeter at 04:15 today.

    It happened a mile-and-a-half after the Blythe Bridge roundabout.

    The man's condition has been described as "stable".

    Work at the crisis hit Midland Metropolitan Hospital has restarted.

    The Smethwick site was abandoned following the collapse of construction company Carillion in January – until the government stepped in with a funding pledge.

    Up to 50 workers from infrastructure firm Balfour Beatty are now repairing and replacing a number of partially completed structures which have been left exposed to the elements since work stopped.

    Balfour Beatty have an “early works” contract until spring 2019.

    The final £300m contract to complete the building, is currently being tendered with several firms in the running, the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust said.

    The trust said it still expects the project to be finished by 2022. The 670-bed hospital is meant to replace large parts of Sandwell Hospital and City Hospital in Birmingham.

    The history of the Caribbean community in Birmingham is being highlighted in a new BBC One series, A Very British History.

    The First Black Brummies, presented by city poet Sue Brown, relives the history of the community between the 1950s and 1970s.
