    The Sutton Coldfield man whose home is at the centre of a search for missing estate agent Suzy Lamplugh search said he's not sure yet whether a police search will continue over the weekend.

    Phillip Carey, 52, said he hadn't got a sense of the police investigation ramping up or activity reducing.

    Police are set to begin their fifth day of searches in the garden of the property which was previously owned by the mother of Suzy's murder suspect John Cannan.

    Officers have been at the scene since Monday, focusing on an area to the rear.

    The Old Grammar School in Coventry hosted a Halloween feast with a difference last night, with dishes designed to resemble body parts - from cheesy toes to brain cake and plenty of fake eye balls.

    Titled Nightmares and Nibbles, it was organised by Vortex Creations and the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.

    Set in Dr Frankenstein's laboratory, the "no holds barred immersive" meal also featured items from the museum's taxidermy collection.

  10. Children's messages of peace ahead of WW1 centenarypublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2018

    Lichfield Cathedral says it's been impressed by the peace messages it's been receiving from children across the West Midlands.

    It asked them to think what peace means in today's world and write it on to paper doves, which will go on display from 1 December, as part of commemorations to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.

    So far it's received around 20,000 of the paper doves and it is holding workshops today and tomorrow, so children can create more.

    A yoga teacher from Redditch wants the help of a skilled mechanic to restore a classic ambulance which she bought after seeing it abandoned in a field.

    Sarah Yates has transported the 1959 van to a field near her house and wants to turn it into a mobile yoga studio.

    Police say they are dealing with a serious crash on the A49 Ross Road in Hereford.

    The road is fully closed in both directions between the ASDA roundabout and Holme Lacey Road, and it's expected to remain closed for several hours.

    It's not yet clear how many people are involved.

    The father of a Shropshire four-year-old with a rare form of leukemia has been speaking out over the planned overnight closure of Telford's accident and emergency department.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust is preparing to make the move because of staff shortages, but Mark Garbett, Zac Oliver's dad, said it was "really important" the A&E at the Princess Royal Hospital remains open 24 hours a day.

    Speaking in a video prepared by Telford and Wrekin Council, he said his family had been very impressed by the support they'd had at the hospital and said "people in the surrounding areas need now to pull together now to save this facility in Telford".

    And he said he was worried about the extra distance patients will have to travel for treatment if the temporary closure goes ahead.

    Zac's family was successful in raising half a million pounds to take him for treatment in the United States and is preparing to fly out there, but yesterday his mother wrote on his Facebook page, external that he'd been admitted to hospital with some odd symptoms and a temperature, so more tests were needed.

  15. Arrest in connection with 'pepper spray' robberypublished at 18:03 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2018

    Detectives investigating a robbery at a convenience store in Burslem have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of aggravated burglary and dangerous driving.

    Staffordshire Police said a number of people walked into K&M News Food & Booze on Hamil Road on 6 September and sprayed members of staff with a substance, suspected to be pepper spray.

    They took a quantity of cash before running from the store, the force said.

    A man who "whipped out" his stash of cannabis whilst talking to police officers has been arrested.

    West Midlands Police said officers had been called to reports of a domestic incident in Sandwell when the man decided to "whip out their cannabis and start rolling whilst we were talking to them".

    "Just a heads up", the force tweeted, external, "it's still illegal".

    The 24-year-old remains in custody on suspicion of possession of the drug.

  17. Police officer avoids jail after admitting assaultpublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2018

    A former West Mercia police officer has received a suspended prison sentence after admitting an assault.

    The Independent Office for Police Conduct said it was asked to investigate PC Laura Lawson, who is 31, after a disturbance in Rugby last year, involving a number of young people.

    The IOPC said "while detaining the 17 year-old boy PC Lawson was seen to kick him twice to his head while he was on the ground".

    It said the matter was referred following a complaint from the boy that the officer had used excessive force.

    PC Lawson was sentenced to three months imprisonment, suspended for two years and resigned from the force following the court proceedings.

    The IOPC also found the officer, who was based at Rugby police station, had a "case to answer for gross misconduct".

  18. Ambulance chief may oppose A&E closure if demands not metpublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2018

    The chief executive of West Midlands Ambulance Service says he won't support the overnight closure of Telford's accident and emergency department, unless he can get extra ambulances.

    Anthony Marsh has previously said another three would be needed, to cope with the longer journeys.

    He also said "unless a miracle occurs" he expects the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust to go ahead with the temporary measure, which is due to start on 5 December, because of staff shortages.

    The suspect threatened a member of staff at the 95p store on Stratford Road at around 21:45 on Wednesday, forcing her to hand over a substantial amount of cash from the safe.

    Before leaving, he set fire to the shop using a liquid accelerant, said West Midlands Police.

    Nobody in the store or the flats above was injured, but parts of the shop were destroyed and others badly damaged, said the force.
