  9. Red tape stripped for stadium's sex showpublished at 09:32 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2019

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Coventry City Council is to waive its sex establishment licence fee to allow a two-day "erotica" show to be held at the Ricoh Arena.

The Erotica Trade Only Show - billed on its website as "The UK’s number one" event of its type - is due to be held at the venue in March.

More than 40 exhibitors have signed up so far and are set to showcase items including adult toys, lingerie and condoms.

Local government legislation states the firm must seek a sex establishment licence fee to hold the event, which normally costs £5,768 per year.

But because the event is only being held for two days, council officers have recommended to waive it as the cost is "unreasonable".

Licensing Manager Debbie Cahalin-Heath said: "A waiver is the most appropriate and reasonable course of action.

"The Ricoh Arena holds a premises licence, is an established operator in the city, and is experienced at hosting and advertising trade exhibitions.

"Licensing officers will liaise closely with both the Ricoh Arena and the event organiser to ensure that all details in the event overview are adhered to."
