    Health campaigners are questioning why a crucial meeting on the future of Shropshire's hospitals later this month is being held at Harper Adams University near Newport.

    The Shropshire Defend our NHS group says holding it on the campus makes it difficult for people without a car to attend.

    The meeting of the county's two clinical commissioning groups will decide how to push ahead with plans to reorganise hospital services. They include making Shrewsbury the county's only emergency centre and Telford a base for planned operations.

    People being left further away from the services they need is one of the main complaints about the proposals.

    Bins are set to be collected every two weeks in Birmingham under temporary measures rolled out by the council to ease disruption amid another dispute with workers.

    Some members of union Unite have been working to rule amid claims secret payments were made to GMB members who didn't walk out in the strike action of summer 2017. Some UNISON members are also taking part.

    The Labour-run authority is set to bring in more agency staff to clear the latest backlog of rubbish.

    According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, council leader Ian Ward described the industrial action - which began in December - as "unlawful", with the cabinet approving a move to seek a court injunction against the unions if they refuse a formal offer to resolve the dispute through the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS).

    Unite warned that its members would escalate their industrial action to full strike action unless the council reversed its decision.

    Meanwhile, Majid Mahmood has resigned from his role as the cabinet member for Clean Streets, Waste and Recycling after disagreeing with the council's plans. He outlined his thoughts here:

    The new Stoke City manager Nathan Jones says he's hoping for a good reaction from the fans when he leads his team out in the FA Cup tonight.

    They face Shrewsbury Town in a third round replay and he says an ovation from the supporters will be a big boost and "I'm an emotional guy anyway, so it won't need much".

    Jones's first match in charge ended in a 3-1 away defeat to Brentford on Saturday, but this will be his first home game since taking over and he says "it's different when you're in the home dugout".

    A controlled explosion is due on what police are describing as a World War Two mortar.

    Bomb disposal experts were called to Wombourne, Staffordshire, this morning following reports of the find at a canal by a member of the public.

    A cordon was put in place at Bratch Locks, said the Staffordshire force, which originally suspected it to be a World War One device.

    Police say it's being moved to a disused quarry in Wombourne "for a safe and controlled explosion", adding that experts say there is no risk to the public.

  9. Football club marks 60th anniversary of FA Cup shockpublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2019

    Today is the 60th anniversary of Worcester City knocking Liverpool out of the FA Cup and the club has released footage of the match that was recorded by a fan.

    A crowd of 15,111 were at St George's Lane to see Worcester, from the Southern League, beat Second Division Liverpool 2-1.

    Worcester had beaten Milwall on the way to the 1959 third round tie and went on to play Sheffield United, losing 2-0.

    The club is inviting other fans to share their memories and is hoping others might find footage or photos of the match.

    Army bomb disposal experts have been called to Wombourne, Staffordshire, to deal with a device suspected of being unexploded World War One ordnance, police say.

    The Staffordshire force said it was spotted at a canal near Bratch Locks by a passer-by.

    The footpath has been closed as a precaution.
