    Police have arrested a boy following the stabbing of a 17-year-old at the weekend.

    He was stabbed in the chest in Darlaston, Walsall, during an argument with a group of youths, but suffered non life threatening injuries.

    A 15-year-old was also punched when the victims were approached by five people in Rough Hay Road on Saturday evening.

    West Midlands Police said a 17-year-old boy had been voluntarily interviewed at Bloxwich police station on Sunday, arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and bailed pending investigations.

  3. Campaigners call for end of fertility treatment 'lottery'published at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2019

    A charity is urging the government to create a fairer system so couples across the country can get equal access to fertility treatment.

    The Fertility Network will present a petition with more than 100,000 signatures to the prime minister today, calling for an end to the "postcode lottery" of IVF.

    Labour MP for Selly Oak, Steve McCabe, whose Access to Fertility Services private members' bill will have its second reading at Westminster later this month, said he was thrilled the petition had received so much support.

    "Infertility is a medical condition and it is completely unfair that access to IVF treatment depends on where you live," he said.

    BBC radio presenter Adrian Goldberg says he's considering getting a German passport after Brexit.

    The West Midlands broadcaster's father Rudolf was a Jewish refugee who fled from Germany to Britain at the start of the Second World War.

    He says having both a British and German passport could give his family the freedom to live, work and travel across Europe in the future.

    Cyrille Regis is being remembered today, one year on from his death.

    The former West Brom, Coventry City, Aston Villa and England forward died aged 59 on 14 January 2018.

    He scored 112 goals in 297 appearances for the Baggies before joining Coventry City for £250,000 in 1984.

    He was a pioneer for black footballers when he played alongside Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson at The Hawthorns.

    A terror suspect has denied trying to murder members of the public and police officers in an alleged attack outside the Houses of Parliament.

    Salih Khater, 29, of Highgate Street, Birmingham, allegedly drove his silver Ford Fiesta into cyclists and pedestrians before swerving towards police officers and crashing into a security barrier.

    Mr Khater spoke only to confirm his name before entering not guilty pleas to all charges against him - two counts of attempted murder and two charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

    He was remanded in custody to stand trial in June.

    Policing two demonstrations by the English Defence League in Worcester last year cost about £100,000.

    A Freedom of Information request by BBC Hereford and Worcester showed the cost of a July demonstration as £11,000 and a second one in September as £88,000.

    West Mercia Police said its main priority was keeping people safe while allowing the protests to go ahead.

    Two police officers were injured and three people arrested during clashes in July.

    At the Australian Open, the Birmingham player beat fellow qualifier Tatsuma Ito 7-5, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8); throwing his racquet in joy at the end.

    Evans returned from a one-year ban in April 2018 after testing positive for cocaine during 2017's Barcelona Open.

    He faces 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer or Denis Istomin next.

    How do you know the photographs you post on social media aren't being stolen by a stranger?

    It's easy to copy someone's pictures and set up a fake online account - a phenomenon known as catfishing.

    Bongi Msimanga, from Shropshire, found someone pretending to be her on Instagram, while Joe Richards' photographs were being used on a Tinder profile.

    Changes to parking charges in Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Church Stretton come into force today.

    Under the new tariffs, there'll be a set price per hour to park, replacing former short and long-stay arrangements.

    Changes to parking charges in Shrewsbury and Ludlow were brought in last year.

    Shropshire Council said the new scheme was designed to make parking charges "clearer and simpler".

  15. Motorcyclist killed in crash is namedpublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2019

    A motorcyclist from Stoke-on-Trent who died following a collision with a car in Staffordshire on Friday has been identified by police.

    Martin Barker, 50, was taken to hospital after the crash which happened at about 17:15 approaching the A50 at Draycott-in-the-Moors, but he died on Saturday morning, police said.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

    West Midlands Police officers have been given metal-detecting "wands" in an attempt to tackle knife crime.

    Eighty officers will be equipped with the scanners to search people suspected of carrying weapons.

    The devices have been funded through the Assets Recovery Fund - money that has been seized from criminals.

    Police are continuing to investigate after two petrol bombs were thrown from a car in Birmingham city centre during the early hours of Saturday morning.

    They were thrown towards Zara's Bar on Broad Street at about 00:20 and landed on the pavement. Nobody was injured.

    CCTV is being recovered and officers are working to identify the vehicle involved.
