    A man who died trying to save a nine-year-old girl from drowning in a country park reservoir has been named.

    Carl Storer, 21, from Tamworth, got into difficulty after he went into Chasewater Reservoir in Burntwood, Staffordshire, to help a nine-year-old girl out of the water.

    She made it to safety.

    His family said he was a good brother who would be deeply missed and always loved.

    A fire involving 1,800 wooden potato boxes on Herefordshire farmland is being treated as a suspected arson attack, police say.

    Fire crews were first called to the site next to Shobdon airfield, near Pembridge in Herefordshire, shortly after midnight.

    Police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

    Five areas of action, which include trying to divert more lorries onto the M6 Toll, has been drawn up by Lichfield District Council which is running the consultation until 7 August., external

    But the council says there won't be a clean air zone, external such as the one to be introduced in Birmingham as it says it'd be "impracticable" and would need "costly" cameras.

    A man's been airlifted to hospital after being found unconscious with potentially life-threatening injuries. , external

    The man, thought to be in his 70s, was discovered this afternoon on the A422 Arrow Lane, Arrow, near Alcester in Warwickshire.

    He was near a badly damaged bicycle, the ambulance service said.

    Traffic is now flowing again on both sides of a stretch of the M5 after repair work was completed.

    But Highways England said it still has to mend the central reservation along a two-mile stretch of the Oldbury Viaduct.

    The agency found it had to make 14,000 repairs to the M% carriageways instead of the 4,000 initially thought to exist.

    Work is expected to finally be finished this autumn but the contraflow has now been removed.

    A police dog was stabbed in the head when he and his handler were called to reports of a man with a knife., external

    PD Audi was injured in Town Road, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent this morning.

    A police officer was also hurt although Staffordshire Police hasn't revealed the extent of the officer's injuries.

    They later tweeted that the dog , externalwas in a stable condition.

    The force said a man who was arrested is thought to have suffered a medical emergency and was taken to hospital.
