    Temperatures across the West Midlands are expected to soar to 33C (91F) today, prompting warnings from health bodies urging people to take care in the sun. 

    The hot weather began over the weekend and is expected to continue tomorrow.

    A property thought to be the source of a swarm of house flies which have infested homes in parts of Warwickshire has been served with a council notice.

    The abatement notice has been served by Rugby Borough Council.

    Some people in the village of Brinklow, near Rugby, say their homes have been plagued for nearly six months.

    The council, which isn't identifying the source, says it can take "enforcement action" should the owners fail to comply with the conditions in the notice.

    However, it says there may be other sources of the flies and is asking residents to report suspected sources or sightings of large swarms to the environmental protection team, external.

  10. Charge dropped against man accused of killing grandfatherpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 18 July 2016

    A man accused of killing a 75-year-old grandfather has had his charge of manslaughter dropped.

    Widower William Heathcote was discovered in Pickard Street, Warwick, during 2014 and was later pronounced dead at hospital.

    Steven Ray Jones, 24, of no fixed address, was charged with manslaughter but will now only face charges of conspiring to pervert the course of justice and witness intimidation.  

    He'll appear with four others, all charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice, at Warwick Crown Court in October.

    A teenager has been shortlisted for a young life saver award after she came to the aid of her father following an accident with a chainsaw.

    Neil Cleasby, of Wolvey, was chopping down a tree when a ladder slipped from under him and he suffered two deep cuts to his lower arm.

    Daughter Charlotte, 17, was praised by paramedics for elevating her dad's arm, and using clean tea towels to make a tourniquet.

    She's one of 50 finalists nominated for the St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes Awards which take place on 7 September.

    Water restrictions are not on the cards during the hot weather, say Severn Trent, but the company is encouraging customers to be careful with consumption.

    Severn Trent say they've been able to balance out supplies by moving water across the region, helped by last month's rainfall, which filled local reservoirs back up to healthy levels.

  18. 'Zombie knife' law changes tomorrowpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 18 July 2016

    The  Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands, David Jamieson says the change in law banning the sale of 'zombie knives' will pass through Parliament tomorrow.

    He's been calling for a ban on sale of the the blades, which have names succh as "Apocalypse Head Decapitator" and "Death Dagger".

    The change in law means anyone who manufactures, sells, hires, imports or lends a "Zombie knife" could face six months behind bars and/or a fine.
