  5. Wasps training base row: Offer of talks 'very much on table'published at 10:02 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Plans for rugby club Wasps to build a training centre on the site of Coventry City FC's youth academy were approved yesterday.

    Coventry City, which leases the land from Coventry Sports Foundation (CSF), has said any reduction in hours its youth players could use facilities may diminish the status of its development programme in the eyes of the Football Association.

    Wasps Group CEO David Armstrong said it understood "sensitivities regarding the location" and it was open to further talks "with CSF and CCFC about any other ways we might be able to assist" with the academy's future.

    Today CSF said: "CSF has repeatedly invited the football club to meet about the future of academy. A meeting with the football club and Wasps was arranged for last month but the football club chose not to attend. The offer to sit down and discuss the matter is still very much on the table."

    - Warwickshire's bowlers reduced Yorkshire to 252 for nine on day one of their county championship match at Headingly

  8. Coventry's Millennium Place to host Rio fanzonepublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    The Rio Olympics officially gets under way later but there will still be a touch of the Brazilian games closer to home. 

    Coventry is hosting a 'Fanzone' in Millennium Place, external around a big screen. 

    It's the only one in the Midlands and is free to enter, showing all the action between 12:00 and 22:00.

  9. 'We will continue fighting' - Sky Blues chairman on Wasps planpublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    The chairman of Coventry City says the club will continue fighting after council planners approved a multi-million pound training base for rugby club Wasps - on land used for the Sky Blues' academy. 

    It means the future of the FA Academy is in doubt, with Coventry saying its survival is vital to the club. 

    Wasps say they remain open to talks about ways they might be able to assist.
