    Wasps have been granted permission to build a £7m training facility at the Alan HiggsCentre in Coventry. , external

    The club wants an indoor training centre and kicking area for their players.

    But the plans are controversial because of the impact it could have on Coventry City Football Club which has its academy based there. 

    The Football Association wrote to the council before the meeting, questioning whether the academy could continue if Wasps' project went ahead. The issues are outlined here.

    The Chairman of the Sky Blues, Tim Fisher, says he is 'deeply disappointed' by the decision. He called the academy "a great community and economic asset".

  11. Medieval church receives thousands in Lottery moneypublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 4 August 2016

    A grant of £211,000 has been given to St Mary the Virgin in Stoneleigh in Warwickshire from the Heritage Lottery Fund. 

    The money is to repair and protect the Grade 1 listed twelfth century building.

    Churchwarden Sarah Ballinger said: “This money will not only enable us to make the building water tight and safe but will help us to better inform our visitors and provide a space for the community to use. We can now guarantee it will be there for future generations to enjoy”

    The Football Association has expressed concern about the future of the Sky Blues Academy if Wasps get permission to build a training centre on the same site. 

    The plans go before councillors later and if passed, the rugby club would be given permission to use land currently used by the Sky Blues at the Alan Higgs Centre on Allard Way, Coventry.

    The FA has written to planners saying the football club might not be able to retain the academy if the scheme's approved.

    Coventry City says Ticketmaster will be posting the tickets over the next week and expects them to arrive before the Shrewsbury game on 14 August.
