  1. Thousands of pounds for art gallerypublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    A grant of £56,000 pounds has been awarded to Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in south Warwickshire.

    It's been given by Arts Council England to help improve the way it communicates and engages with current and potential visitors. 

    Compton Verney is aming to become a place for everyone using the building and the parkland.

    Compton Verney Director Dr Steven Parissien said: "This goal will be achieved by opening the landscape to the public all year round from 2017, and will be supported by our new Welcome Centre, the restored Chapel, our hugely diverse landscape-based activity programme and our exciting new art commissions for the park".

    Police investigating the suspected attempted murder of a man in Leicester have arrested a man in Coventry., external

    The 22-year-old was detained last night and is still in police custody following the shooting in Green Lane Road in March.

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. 

    The 22-year old was in a car stopped by Leicestershire police at the junction of Walsgrave Road and Binley Road in Coventry yesterday evening. 

    It's after a man was shot and injured in Leicester in March. 

    A 21 year old man and two teenagers aged 16 and 13 have been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

    The wife of a Coventry man who survived prostate cancer, external says making men aware of the symptoms is more effective than regular testing.

    Mel Davis was diagnosed after going to his doctor with back pain.

    Both his younger brother and father died from the disease.

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences. , external

    The men, aged 38 and 40, were detained in Coventry under the Terrorism Act on suspicion of financing terrorism. 

    Counter Terrorism officers are searching properties and say the arrests are part of a continuing investigation.

    A Coventry councillor who quit the Conservative party after saying people who did not speak English should "go home" is facing more calls to resign. 

    Glenn Williams resigned from the Tories three weeks ago after a document was leaked of an exchange on social media with another councillor in which he said he did not believe in multiculturalism and that the controversial politician Enoch Powell was a "personal hero".

    Although he is no longer a member of the Conservatives, he remains an independent councillor for the Bablake ward. 

    Now the leader of Coventry City Council and others have called an extraordinary meeting calling for his resignation from the council. 

    Today's meeting is also to re-allocate Mr Williams' seats on the planning and health and scrutiny committees with immediate effect.

    Proposals that could see 9,000 new homes built in north Warwickshire could "spell disaster for the area", according to the Labour leader at the borough council. 

    The North Warwickshire Local Plan, a blueprint for future development of the area, is going out for public consultation, with councillors meeting today to discuss potential development sites.

    But Adam Farrell, the leader of the opposition at the borough council, says the infrastructure needed for the houses is not in place.

    Unipart says its new contract to provide fuel rails to China is partly down to its collaborative project with Coventry University - the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME).

    The components it will now supply are said to provide greater fuel efficiency and 'cleaner' motoring.

  19. Work starts on Kenilworth railway stationpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    Work has started on the new Kenilworth railway station which is due to open in 2017.

    A new passenger service from Coventry to Leamington should start later next year.

    The new station site at Priory Road was originally used as a railway station from 1844 to 1965.
