    Two people are due to stand trial today accused of murdering a woman found with neck injuries.

    Jack Williams, 20, Of Redlands Crescent, and Kayleigh Louise Woods, 22 of Hertford Road in Stratford-upon-Avon, pleaded not guilty earlier this month to the murder of Bethany Hill.

    Both are due to appear today at Warwick Crown Court.

    Ms Hill, 20, was found dead at an address in Stratford on 3 February.

  5. Home ownership falling says think tankpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    A new study concludes that levels of home ownership are as low as they were in the 1980s, with the West Midlands one of the areas most affected. 

    In the last 11 years, levels have dropped in the region from just over 70% to 59%.

    The social policy research group, The Resolution Foundation, says the biggest shift towards renting, in recent years, has been in major cities, such as Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.

    New figures show the cost of crime in the Midlands countryside is rising faster than anywhere else in Britain.

    Last year there was a 10% increase in crime related insurance claims in our region - up from £6m in 2014 to £6.6m in 2015.

  15. Hate crime in EU ref month higher than same month in 2015published at 17:39 British Summer Time 1 August 2016

    There was a 22% rise in reported hate crimes in June this year compared to the same calendar month in 2015, according to Warwickshire Police data.

    According to figures, released by the force under the Freedom of Information Act, offences specifically linked to race are up more than 36%. 

    The 2016 period covers the run-up and aftermath of the EU referendum.

    Nationally, numbers point to a 16% increase in hate crime.

    West Midlands Police did not submit details.
