    A Coventry primary school is hoping to get official confirmation it's broken the world record for gathering in one place the most people dressed as scientists.

    Pupils and staff from Stivichall Primary School - loaned the lab coats by the University of Warwick -  is hosting a holiday club to encourage children's interest in science and engineering.

  8. Bethany Hill murder trial adjournedpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    The trial of two people accused of murdering Bethany Hill has been adjourned until next year.

    Jack Williams, 20, and Kayleigh Louise Woods, 22, both of Stratford-upon-Avon, appeared at Warwick Crown Court today for the start of a scheduled four-week trial. Both deny killing Ms Hill, whose body was found with neck injuries in February this year.

    Following legal submissions from counsel representing both defendants and a QC acting for the prosecution, a judge postponed proceedings until January 2017.

    The charity on Myton Lane will shut its doors from Friday August 19 until Monday September 5.

    Young people are being encouraged to watch out for signs their friends are being groomed online. 

    The message, in the form of notices going up around the region, is the latest part of a campaign by West Midlands Police and councils to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE). 

    The authorities are also aiming to get the advice to young people via apps and social media sites.

  11. China deal creates 40 jobs in Coventrypublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    Unipart in Coventry is to create 40 new jobs after winning a major contract with the motor giant Ford.

    It will supply parts for the firm's next generation of cleaner engines for cars being produced in China.

    The deal, starting in 2018, means the factory has to increase capacity by 50%.

  12. Further arrests after raids target off-road bikingpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 2 August 2016

    Eleven people have now been arrested in a police crackdown on quad bikes and scramblers being ridden illegally.

    Addresses in Coventry and Birmingham have been targeted, with 16 off-road bikes seized.

    Chief Inspector Jack Hadley of West Midlands Police said: "The message to off-road bikers is very clear: enough is enough.

    "We have been patient and tried to speak to those involved to warn about the dangers of their actions − but such unacceptable behaviour must now stop."

    A rare puppet collection has been saved for the nation – and is about to go on display.

    Michael Dixon who used to run the puppet and toy shop on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon is the Archivist of the British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild and owns the national puppetry archive.  

    He keeps it in a secret location, but it’s going on display in Wolverhampton, thanks to lottery money.

    Michael's collection includes, external several Muffin the Mules and Spitting Image puppets.

    Warwickshire earnt a home quarter-final in the Royal London Cup after a 114-run win over Yorkshire yesterday, thanks mainly to a century from Jonathan Trott.

    He said it was "important I batted through".
