  1. Plans to refund fined drivers thrown outpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

A plan to possibly refund motorists fined for driving through bus-only junctions in Coventry has been thrown out.

A motion from the city's Conservative councillors, calling for the move, was defeated at a full council meeting.

They wanted drivers who had been fined to be contacted - because the warning signs for the junctions weren't in the right place - and refunds might be due.

    Quote Message

These people are owed the money. It would be very welcome I expect...we think the council is morally obliged to write to everybody who was incorrectly fined because the signs were wrong explaining that they can get their money back.

John Bundell, Leader of the Conservative Group

Chief medical officer Prof Dame Sally Davies said: "Flu can be much more dangerous for children than many patients realise and when children get flu they tend to spread it around the whole family."

The council should "rethink proposals", he said, which will "jeopardise important employment land".

Current owner of the land UPS objects to council proposals for a compulsory purchase order, saying it is planning to create up to 150 new jobs at the site.

    Quote Message

Whilst I understand the committee's motivation for rail car parking is laudable, the fact remains that in Nuneaton we have a massive shortfall in employment land. The first priority should be looking to encourage new industrial development and not prevent it

    Marcus Jones, Conservative MP
