The Coventry church to be reopened to worshipers after 45 years contains a 1960s mural recognised as historically important by English Heritage.
The mural, on a wall inside St Mark's Church, was painted in 1963 by German-born Jew Hans Feibusch, who fled from Nazis in 1933.
The mural's recognition means it will have protected status.
The Bishop of Coventry said they hoped to reopen the church to parishioners next year.

A city centre church in Coventry will open its doors to parishioners again next year, 45 years after closing.
St Mark's Church, in Stoney Stanton road, Swanswell, served as a place of worship for 100 years before being closed in 1972.
The Bishop of Coventry said the church would be relaunched as a "city centre resource church" to target a younger congregation.
The Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth said: "We want to reach out, particularly to the student community and people in their 20s and 30s, a community which is often distanced from the life of the Church."
The colours of the now disbanded 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers were paraded in Warwick.
Troops marched through the town for the annual veterans' parade before a service at St Mary's Church, where the colours were laid to rest.
