    Vanessa Pearce
    BBC Local Live

David Reid was one of two readers who got in touch using Your Questions to ask: "Why does Warwickshire have a bear chained to a staff on its coat of arms?"

Well the County Records Offices says the coat of arms, granted to the county council in 1931, is "composed of various elements" from the Warwickshire's past and present.

Unfortunately there's no exact answer, as, they say, the origins of the "bear and the ragged staff" are lost in the distant past, but the bear's been associated with the earls of Warwick since around the 14th Century.

You can find some great history of the bear in their article here, external.
