    Promotion and relegation has been introduced to British speedway's top two divisions in a revamp of the sport.  

    Coventry, Somerset and reigning champions Wolverhampton are among the sides to race in the 2017 top flight.

    The bottom side in the Premiership will race the Championship play-off champions in an end-of-season race, to decide who rides in the following season's top tier.

    The divisions will no longer be known as the Elite League and Premier League.

    Cocaine seized by police and the Border Force has surged to the highest level in more than a decade, according to new figures.

    Yet the overall amount of drugs confiscated by police fell by 11%, the fourth consecutive drop.

    Warwickshire recorded one of the highest percentage rises in the number of drug seizures, up to 1,234 in 2015/16 from 1,158 the previous year.

    A police motorcyclist was taking part in an advanced motorcycle training course when he was seriously injured in a crash yesterday, police say, external.

    The officer, based at Rugby, was in a collision with a blue Citroen C2 in the incident on Evesham Road near Stratford-upon-Avon.

    He was airlifted to hospital in Coventry with multiple fractures to his legs and pelvis and said to be in a stable condition.

    The incident has been referred to the Warwickshire force's Professional Standards department.

    Coventry has more obese 10 and 11-year-old children than the national average, according to figures collected through the National Child Measurement Programme.

    In the city, nearly one in four kids in that age group was found to be obese in 2015-16.

    The figure of 23.2% compares to a national average of 19.8%.

    For Warwickshire as a whole, the figure is a below-average 17.3%, but there are variations across the county.

    In Nuneaton and Bedworth, 21% of year six pupils were recorded as obese, compared with 14.1% in Stratford-upon-Avon.

    Two men have been arrested after about 60 cars had their tyres slashed in Coventry, police say.

    A 19-year-old and a 21-year-old were detained in Belgrave Road in the Wyken area of the city last night and are currently in police custody.

  17. Stratford MP 'disappointed' at High Court ruling on Brexitpublished at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2016

    Conservative MP Nadhim Zahawi said he's "disappointed" at today's High Court judgment on Brexit and thinks the government is right to appeal the decision.

    Parliament must vote on whether the UK can start the process of leaving the EU, the High Court has ruled. 

    The Stratford-upon-Avon MP said he expected parliament to "respect the will of the people" and vote for Brexit as not to do so would "drive a horse and coaches through democracy".
