    The High Court ruling on Brexit  "sadly comes as no surprise", said West Midlands UKIP MEP James Carver.

    “The establishment are doing exactly the same as happened in Denmark, Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands and France, in previous EU referendums," he said.

  4. 'Crowbar' attack on lorry driverpublished at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2016

    A lorry driver in Rugby was attacked by two men who'd broken in to his trailer and were stealing the contents, police say., external

    The man, in his 30s, was hit on the head and legs with what's believed to be a crowbar on Castle Mound Way on Tuesday.

    The suspects stole cash from the victim before driving away.

    The Sheffield Steelers defenceman Zack Fitzgerald's been banned for two matches  for the clash that sidelined Coventry Blaze's net-minder Brian Stewart on Saturday. 

    The Elite League ruled that Fitzgerald made no attempt to avoid hitting Stewart's head and neck, ruling it a dangerous and reckless play. 

    He's been banned for one game for that - and for a second game after the original two-minute penalty was upgraded to a match penalty.

    A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after crashing with a car in Stratford-upon-Avon, says the ambulance service.

    The man in his 40s suffered "serious" injuries in the collision on Evesham Road, Dodwell, at around 15:10 yesterday.

    A once endangered medieval building in the centre of Coventry has been officially recognised as a heritage building. 

    The 12th century grammar school has undergone extensive restoration work and has been turned into new galleries for the city's Transport Museum. 

    A Civic Voice Blue Plaque is being unveiled today.

  11. Force classed as 'outstanding'published at 10:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2016

    West Midlands Police is one of only two forces in the country to be classed as "outstanding" because of the way it manages resources and new technology. 

    In a report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary it was praised for its level of planning as well as looking at crimes which go under-reported such as cyber crime. 

    Earlier this week, the force revealed its investment in new technology for officers such as better body cameras and smart phones.

    The Labour candidate for the West Midlands mayor Sion Simon has launched a campaign to end charges on the M6 Toll.  

    Figures from the regional chambers of commerce show that congestion is costing the local economy £2bn a year. 

    The M6 Toll is currently up for sale and Mr Simon is calling on the government to agree to a deal where it could be managed locally and be free to motorists.

    Pioneering new technology produced at Coventry University will give tourists the chance to see how the city's old cathedral looked before the Blitz. 

    A special app will allow visitors to stand in the ruins while viewing a reconstruction of St Michael's Cathedral.

    The building was destroyed by German bombers in 1940.
