    Six remaining milestones in the county are to be renovated as part of a Lottery-funded project. , external

    There were around 460 milestones or mileposts in Warwickshire in 1839, says the Milestone Society - about 60 remain today.

    Most of them were defaced or buried in 1940 when then-Minister of Transport, Sir John Reith, demanded they were removed in case Britain was invaded.

    Coventry City's teenager George Thomas felt the buzz of finding the back of the net for the first time in the Sky Blues' 4-2 win at Wycombe in this week's Checkatrade Trophy tie.

    The 19-year-old Welshman, who made his City debut at 16, broke his duck in his 22nd appearance and told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire he's hoping it can be the first of many.

    The Coventry Blaze say former star Adam Calder's been able to book potentially life-saving treatment in Europe after a fund-raining campaign broke its target. 

    They aimed to raise £25,000 for the player who's fighting cancer. 

    The fund now stands at £42,000, with half of that going to cover the costs of treatment in Europe.

    Anne Hathaway's Cottage and gardens in Shottery has been chosen as a new safe haven for rescued hedgehogs.

    Three ten-year-old girls from Stratford-upon-Avon set up the Hedgehog Friendly town group dedicated to helping the animals in the area through fundraising and fostering injured animals.

    The Cubbington war memorial in Warwickshire is to receive the protection of listed status, Historic England has announced.

    The remembrance site in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary in the village is among 50 nominated by the public to be listed.

    Former Coventry MP Dave Nellist is among a group of hard-left former Labour members who've applied to rejoin the party to help stop, they say, "further compromise and retreats" to "pacify the Blairites".

    Nellist had previously been expelled from the party. He's now general secretary of the Socialist Party.

     A Labour spokeswoman said: "It is against Labour's rules to be a member of another political party or organisation which has its own programme, principles and policy, or distinctive and separate propaganda, and which is therefore ineligible for affiliation to the party."
