    Interim Sky Blues boss Mark Venus has confirmed that midfielder Andy Rose will miss the trip to Bolton with a thigh strain, having also sat out of the weekend's action.

    Kwame Thomas won't be fit for another six weeks, but Chris Stokes has returned to grass-based training, he said.

  2. Knife-wielding robber forces man to open safe at ex-servicemen's clubpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    A man was threatened with a knife during a robbery, external at Bedworth Ex-Servicemen's Club, police have said.

    A club member was locking up the premises on Rye Piece Ringway around 23:55 last Wednesday when he was forced back into the building by two men, one carrying a knife.

    The offenders made off with cash from the safe and the victim's mobile phone.

    Up to 200 jobs could go under Coventry City Council's budget proposals, although it expects to avoid compulsory redundancies as it seeks to make savings.

    The authority says it's already reduced employee numbers by more than 2,100 since 2010.

    A reduction in park maintenance and street cleaning along with cuts to road repairs is designed to help save £21m in the next three years.

    Car parking charges are also set to increase and there will be a review of transport assistance for schoolchildren and 16 to 19-year-olds.

  4. Barrier stops car plumeting off elevated section into riverpublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    A safety barrier stopped a woman ending up in a river 70ft below after her car crashed on the M42 today.

    The ambulance service says the car hit the Armco barrier, which "thankfully" kept it on the motorway.

    Firefighters removed the side of the car to allow ambulance staff to remove the woman, and take her to hospital in Derby with a head injury.

    The crash happened at about 09:25 on the northbound carriageway between junctions 10 and 11.

    Wasps forward Joe Launchbury could miss England's final two tests of the autumn after being cited for an alleged kick against a Fijian player. 

    The lock has been in fine form for England and scored two tries as they beat Fiji 58-15 on Saturday. 

    But officials are investigating an incident in the second minute when Launchbury is alleged to have kicked an opponent. 

    If found guilty he could face a 12-week ban

    "Aggressive begging", cycling outside of cycle paths and skateboarding could be banned under plans for Coventry city centre.   

    The council is to consult over public space protection orders - measures that can prohibit certain activities or groups at certain times and last up to three years.

    They are enforceable by police, with transgressions carrying fines of £100.

    The trial of two men accused of murdering Coventry man Liam McGerrigan is under way at Birmingham Crown Court.

    They are Michael Bullingham, 33, of Banner Lane, Tile Hill, and Joseph Johnson, 25, of no fixed address. 

    Mr McGerrigan died in June on Holyhead Road after suffering a stab wound. He was 27.

  11. Driver cut free after M42 crashpublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

    One person had to be cut free from a vehicle after a crash on the M42 this morning.

    The fire service said it was called just before 09:40 to the collision, which happened between junctions 10 and 11 on the northbound carriageway.

    A legend of the Ska and 2 Tone music movement is being honoured by Coventry University for her support of the city's music scene.

    Lead singer of The Selecter, Pauline Black, will receive an honourary Doctor of Arts degree at a graduation ceremony on 23 November.

    Three years of work is nearing an end as Tollbar island underpass fully opens today.

    The redevelopment is part of a £110m project upgrading the roundabout connecting the A45 from the west with the A46.

    The Highways Agency says it hopes the project will be completed on schedule by the end of this year.

    Coventry residents' council tax could be going up by 4% from April 2017.

    The council says under its budget proposals, most homes would pay an extra £4 a month - about £50 a year.

    The authority needs to save £36m by 2020 which amounts to about 15% of its total budget.

    The proposals, to be discussed on 29 November, will be put out for public consultation, with all councillors voting on the final budget in February.
