    Three people were treated for multiple injuries in a two-car collision in Nuneaton last night, says the Ambulance Service.

    Two suffered serious injuries in the crash which happened shortly after 21:50 near to the Griffin Inn.

    An emaciated dog with rotting flesh found wandering in a country lane near Warwick has been put down, says the RSPCA which is investigating.

    The German Shepherd, nine, had a severely matted coat and difficulty standing. His claws had grown to three inches.

    An RSPCA spokesperson said: "We are really keen to find out how Jake came to be how he was, and whether he was callously dumped. He was suffering a great deal when he was found."

  6. Search begins for HS2 train-builderpublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2017

    The search for a company to design, build and maintain high speed trains for the proposed HS2 rail network has been launched.

    Up to 60 trains will be needed and the contract to build them is worth more than £2.5 billion.

    Construction work on phase one from London to Birmingham through Warwickshire is planned to start in the spring. 

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling says the project should be given royal assent in the next month.

    London Midland says it has "no intention" of removing conductors from trains.

    The statements comes as the RMT announced it was balloting its members on whether to take industrial action over the matter.

    The rail company said they introduced the additional security contractors "based on freedback from front-line staff and passengers".

    "We have made it clear to the RMT from the very beginning that this is about the safety and security of our colleagues and customers," London Midland said.

    Conductors on London Midland are voting on whether to take industrial action in a row over the company's decision to put external security contractors on trains "by imposition and without agreement", the RMT says.

    The rail union said the ballot of 523 conductor members opened yesterday and concludes on 2 February.

    In a statement the union said the company had "failed to respond to our questions, proposals and suggestions that would have averted the need for a potential breakdown in industrial relations".
