  5. Chartered surveyors to be offered space in new council buildingpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is to be offered two-and-a-half floors of the 11-storey Friargate building now taking shape near Coventry railway station.

    Councillor Jim O'Boyle said a benefit of the deal would be to generate an annual rent, helping the council "cope with the tough financial situation".

    If the RICS approves the plan, it would move about 300 staff into the building.

    Jessica Shuttleworth, from Coventry, got in touch about a decision made with her husband Dan for her to work full time after their son was born because "as a woman, I get far more rights as a working mother than he would as a working father".

    A pedestrian has been hit by a car on Leicester Road, in Wolvey Heath, near Rugby, the ambulance service says.

    A man in his 50s was taken to hospital suffering multiple injuries.

    Police say the road, from Mill Lane to Temple Hill, will remain closed for investigations.

    Coventry City Council is looking at scaling back the number of staff it will move into new headquarters currently being built as part of the city's Friargate development.

    The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors had planned to move into a second building on the site, but the council says because of the institute's "timescale for relocation" it's to be offered space in the council building.

    The council says that would mean about 500 of its staff will have to stay in its current offices, including Broadgate House, and it would have to restructure its own move.

    A short film made by a Coventry teenager has been awarded best in category at the annual Moving Image Awards in London.

    Finham Park student Jack Brazil's short film Paper People picked up the award in the 16 or under category at the ceremony, held at the British Film Institute.

    Luxury car owners in Nuneaton and Bedworth are being warned by police to be on their guard against thieves. 

    The Bedworth safer neighbourhood team says there's been an increase in break-ins to Mercedes cars, with the sat navs being targeted.
