Tania Chikwature, 32, from Butterfly Way, Coventry, was more than three times over the limit when she lost control and flipped the car near Peterborough in December.

Miraculously, her son was unhurt and she sustained only minor injuries.

Chickwature admitted drink-driving and dangerous driving and was jailed for 26 weeks by Peterborough magistrates.

The court heard she had been drinking vodka between 21:00 and 01:00 the night before the crash.

She was driving to a wake when she lost control of her Nissan Qashqai at about 11:40 GMT on 12 December.

Peterborough Magistrates' Court heard Chikwature was overtaking a lorry at speed on the A605 when she hit a roundabout, flew across it and clipped a tree, causing the vehicle to land on its roof.

The child was released unhurt by a passing motorist, but firefighters had to free Chikwature from the wreckage.

Lorry driver Richard Jones, who captured the accident on his dash-cam, said: "I remember thinking as it launched into the air, they're not going to make it."

The court heard a vodka bottle was found inside the car.

Chikwature refused a breath test at the scene but after submitting a blood sample, through back-calculation officers found she had 246mg of alcohol in 100ml at the time of the incident. The legal limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

She was jailed for 26 weeks for dangerous driving and 12 weeks for drink-driving to be served concurrently, and was banned from driving for three years.
