    A disabled man's family says his first holiday in years was over even before a Ryanair flight took off.

    Andy Latham's custom-made wheelchair was ruined when it was loaded on to the plane.

    The aircraft was also damaged and Mr Latham, from Southam, Warwickshire, his family and other passengers had to disembark.

    Ryanair said it regretted "any inconvenience caused by our handling agent Swissport" and was "liasing with the Lathams to resolve the matter".

    Warwickshire, external have announced batsman William Porterfield and all-rounder Ateeq Javid are to leave Edgbaston at the end of the current season when their current contracts expire.

    Ireland captain Porterfield [pictured above], who's 32, has played for the Bears for seven seasons after arriving from Gloucestershire.

    Javid, who's 25, has agreed a two-year contract with Leicestershire.

    A van driver was "extremely lucky" not to have suffered far more serious injuries after his vehicle struck a tree near Warmington in Warwickshire, say the ambulance service, external.

    The crash happened on Banbury Road, on the road to Gaydon at around 09:44 today.

    The driver, who was initially unconscious, was taken to University Hospital in Coventry suffering chest and back injuries.

  11. Police name 'big-hearted' victim in murder investigationpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    A man whose body was found at a house in Nuneaton last week has been named as Don Cocks by police.

    A 64-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder after the 65-year-old's body was found in St Mary's Road last Monday.

    Mr Cocks was described as a "big-hearted, larger-than-life character", by his family, who said they were "heartbroken to have lost him".

    Warwickshire Police have released the woman whilst they continue their investigation.

    An initial post mortem of Mr Cocks proved inconclusive, more tests will be required, said police.

    Coventry and Warwickshire have been named as areas in the UK which will soon be trying out broadband technology that provides high speed data.

    Businesses, schools and hospitals will be the first to try out the "full-fibre" network technology which provides data at speeds approaching one gigabit per second (gbps).

    The government will spend about £10m getting the pilots up and running.

    The technology involved is known as full-fibre because it takes high-speed cables directly to premises.

    The Notts Outlaws beat them by 22 runs at Edgbaston at the weekend after batting first and making 190-4.

    In March, the Bears signed the former New Zealand all-rounder on a "Kolpak contract" for the T20 Blast.

    Kolpak contracts are signed by foreign players, using a European Court ruling, to avoid counting against the quota of one overseas player per club.
