    There's a yellow warning for wind over the course of breakfast time this morning - strong winds are expected with gusts of 50-60mph likely to cause difficult driving conditions.

    It’ll be a windy start with blustery conditions steadily easing over the course of the day.

    An area of low pressure will bring gusts of up to 75mph across much of England and Wales during Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

    A Coventry man has returned safely from a holiday in Florida, after driving hundreds of miles to escape Hurricane Irma.

    Michael Meredith arrived back in the city last night, five days after setting out from his holiday in the city of Naples.

    Last Thursday he was told his flight out of Fort Lauderdale, which was due to take off on Saturday, was cancelled.

    "That was the point I thought, we've got to go," he said.

    The 450-mile drive from Tampa to Atlanta "was supposed to take six-and-a-half hours, "it took us 14" he said.

    "We drove 640 miles, over two days" he said, eventually getting back to London on a flight from Atlanta via Chicago.

    The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner says the government's agreement to give pay rises to officers above 1% is a "hollow gesture".

    David Jamieson has criticised the government, as any pay rises are expected to come from local budgets.

  18. 'Like a Colossus': RSC pays tribute to Sir Peter Hallpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 12 September 2017

    Sir Peter Hall founded the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in 1960 at just 30 years of age, insisting on a permanent company with a home at Stratford and a complementary base at The Aldwych in London.
