    The club will be celebrating its 150th anniversary game with 40 players, spanning five decades, taking part in a special celebration game.

  4. Commonwealth Games 2022: Area to benefit from Birmingham bidpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2017

    Birmingham's bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games has been officially backed by the government, with some competitions being held in Coventry and Warwickshire.

    The city could be the sole bidder, with doubts over whether rivals Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Victoria in Canada will apply.

    Coventry's Indoor Arena, home to Wasps Netball, has been named to host netball and Leamington Spa's Victoria Park the lawn bowls and Para lawn bowls competitions.

    A 55-year-old man has died after crashing in a light aircraft in Wolvey last night, police say.

    A second man, who's 56, remains in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

    It's understood the two-seater plane had just taken off from the airstrip when it crashed through a hedge.

    The Air Accident Investigation Branch sent a team to the area to work with Warwickshire Police and try to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

    A former ambulance service manager who admitted raping a 12-year-old girl has been jailed.

    Adrian Crowe, from Kirkdale Road, Coventry, groomed his victim on an internet chatroom before meeting and raping her in Wirral, Merseyside, in June.

    The 40-year-old had online exchanges with other youngsters in which he gave his age and asked one girl: "Are you legal or jail bait?"

    He was jailed for eight years at Liverpool Crown Court.

    Two men have suffered life-threatening burns in a light aircraft crash in Warwickshire.

    The pair came down in a field near Grove Farm in the village of Wolvey at about 16:00 yesterday.

    They were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

  8. Delivery day for City of Culture bidpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 29 September 2017

    The cities bidding to be the UK's City of Culture 2021 are submitting formal bids today.

    Coventry is up against Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland, Swansea and Paisley for the title.

    A panel of judges will visit all cities next month, with the winner being announced in December.

    Warwickshire's coach, Jim Troughton, said the team's performance this season just "hasn't been good enough".

    The Bears drew against Hampshire yesterday at Edgbaston - keeping Hants up on the last day of the County Championship season.

    But the side has managed to win only one championship game all year.

    Troughton said he "cannot question the effort from the lads" but admitted that "at the end of the day we're in a results business, and we just haven't been good enough".

    Production of engines for Jaguar Land Rover at the Ford engine plant in Bridgend, Wales, will stop three months earlier than had been expected.

    Ford has confirmed that its contract to supply Coventry-based JLR with petrol engines will cease in September 2020.

    The company said that it was disappointing news but that it was looking at new business opportunities.

    JLR said: "Ford has been, and remains, an important strategic supplier to Jaguar Land Rover under an agreement which was negotiated to support our business until the end of the decade."

  15. Cat rescued after three days up a treepublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    A cat, thought to have been stuck up a tree for three days, has been rescued by fire crews in Kenilworth.

    The fire service said, external they called to Webster Avenue in the town to help the RSPCA rescue the animal, which wasn't injured.
