    A giant replica of the moon has been installed at Coventry Sports Centre swimming pool as part of this year's Festival of Imagineers., external

    Measuring seven metres in diameter, the Museum of the Moon installation features detailed NASA lunar imagery and will bathe the pool and swimmers in "moonlight".

    A miniature sports stadium has been submitted to Guinness World Records judges as the smallest ever replica to be made from a postage stamp.

    The tiny replica of Manchester United's Old Trafford is the work of Sharminder Singh from Coventry who recently built a replica of Wimbledon's Centre Court using 12,000 toothpicks.

    A man attempted to abduct a ten-year-old girl in the Radford area of Coventry yesterday, say police, external.

    She was walking with her bike when she was targeted by a motorist. A member of the public managed to intervene to free the girl on Poole Road at about 16:15 and the offender drove off.

    Police have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of attempted kidnap.

    DI Stuart Bell from West Midlands Police said investigations into the incident were "ongoing" and he commended the "quick-thinking actions of the members of the public" who made sure the child was safe.

    The Royal Shakespeare Company said it sold "the majority" of items in its costume sale on Saturday.

    Around 10,000 items of clothing worn by actors over the decades were bought by more than 1,700 visitors; some of whom camped overnight to be among the first in the queue.

    Budget grocer Aldi says its sales growth accelerated in the UK and Ireland by 13.5% in 2016, to a record £8.7bn.

    But the firm, which has its UK headquarters in Atherstone, saw its operating profit fall by 17% and its gross profits fall by 7%.
