    A Coventry primary school has been praised in a government report as an example of excellent teaching and learning practice.

  8. Police chiefs hold 'constructive' meeting over funding with ministerpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    The case for a "fairer funding" deal for Warwickshire Police has been raised with a government minister by the local Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Philip Seccombe.

    At a meeting with Nick Hurd MP last night, Mr Seccombe was joined by Warwickshire's chief constable Martin Jellley.

    The PCC said the minister "listened carefully" during the "positive and constructive" meeting in which the financial challenges faced by the force were explained.

    "I pressed the case," Mr Seccombe, said for a fairer system of funding for policing, with less top-slicing of budgets and greater flexibility for police and crime commissioners to determine their budgets locally".

    A driverless pod, designed and manufactured in Coventry, has been inspected by the Duke of Cambridge.

    Prince William was on a trip to Milton Keynes to celebrate the town's 50th anniversary.

  10. UK energy has 'greenest' summer to datepublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    More than half the UK's electricity came from low carbon sources this summer, according to the National Grid which said the UK had its "greenest" summer on record.

    The Warwick company has launched software that combines its knowledge of the energy system with weather data from the Met Office to forecast the share of renewable and non-renewable energy on the grid over the next 48 hours and the resulting carbon emissions.

    It is hoped that technology companies will then develop apps and software that could help people control when and what type of energy they use.

  11. Driver hurt in three-lorry M6 crashpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    A driver had to be cut from the cab of his lorry after a three-vehicle crash on the M6 earlier, the ambulance service says.

    Fire crews worked on the vehicle before paramedics could treat him for leg and abdominal injuries.

    The man, believed to be in his 40s, was then taken to hospital in Coventry.

    The southbound carriageway was closed for a time between junctions one and the A14/M1 interchange after three lorries crashed at about 10:00.

    A child rapist who carried out an 18-year campaign of sexual abuse has been jailed for 20 years.

    David Hazell, 62, of Bishop's Itchington, was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court yesterday after a jury found him guilty of multiple offences committed against a boy and a girl between 1994 and 2012.

    He was convicted of indecent assault, rape, three counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and four counts of rape of a child under 13.
