    The Bloodhound SSC project is building a supersonic car at it's Avonmouth workshop in a bid to break the land speed record and reach 1,000mph.

  5. Driverless rail plans unveiledpublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Plans for a driverless light rail system for Coventry have been unveiled by researchers from the University of Warwick.

    The £6m project would use lightweight, battery-operated vehicles and tracks designed by the Warwick Manufacturing Group and Warwick's School of Engineering.

    The project’s leaders says the system will be quicker and cheaper to build than old-style trams and their aim is to create a UK supply chain for manufacturing lightweight rail vehicles and tracks.

    The first demonstrator vehicle is estimated to be built and ready for testing by Spring 2019.

    A man is due before magistrates today charged in connection with the attempted kidnap of a ten-year-old girl.

    Mounir Kambour, aged 40, from Radford, Coventry, was arrested on Monday and remains in custody.

    The 10-year-old reported a man taking hold of her arm as she walked in Poole Road, Radford, on Sunday afternoon, West Midlands Police said.

    A photo of Coventry Football Club in 1890-91 (pictured), only seven years after the club was founded, is included in a scrap book which is set to be auctioned.

    The book, which contains news and sports clippings dating back to 1888, is being sold alongside a letter by England cricketer WG Grace.

    Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said: "The scrapbook brims with the area’s sporting history and heritage and takes us back to another time and place."

    The book, which includes "yesterday's local cricket" reports and news stories, will be auctioned in Derbyshire on Saturday. The estimated price is £800 to £1,200.

  13. Armed men raid bingo moneypublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Three men, believed to have been armed with a bladed weapon and baseball bat, have stolen a "large amount of cash" from Nuneaton's Grand Bingo after threatening staff, police said.

    The men, dressed in dark clothes with their faces covered, broke into the building in Camp Hill Road between 07:55 and 08:15 on Monday.

    Det Con Stephen Reading said: "Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured during this incident but it was an understandably traumatic experience for those involved."

    Mark Jepp, managing director of Majestic Bingo Limited, appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to contact Warwickshire Police.

    A reward of £1,000 has been put up for information which leads to arrests and subsequent convictions.

    People travelling between Nuneaton and Coventry will soon have more services to chose from.

    Nuneaton and Borough Council says from December there will be an additional service every hour,, external meaning there will be two an hour from Monday to Fridays and on Sundays and three each hour on Saturdays.

    There will also be later and earlier services between the two places.

    The changes follow a £1bn investment in the region and the awarding of a new franchise to West Midlands Trains Ltd, a council spokesman said.

    A woman has spoken of her shock at seeing her husband's new BMW in flames after an arson attack on their driveway.

    Nicola Wyldbore-Smith shared images of what she called the "mindless, vicious" attack on Twitter and appealed for information. It happened in Ufton on Sunday morning.

    Mrs Wyldbore-Smith said her son spotted the flames in the driveway and the family called firefighters, who quickly arrived.

    "It is just unbelievable," she said. "It was quite scary as the fire took hold so quickly and the tyres exploded."

    She said the fire fortunately did not reach the wooden doors of her garage.

    CCTV footage from the house shows two youths running away from the area after the attack at 07:45, she added.

    Warwickshire Police has begun an investigation.
