  15. Conservatives hold nerve to keep overall controlpublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    Tim Parker
    BBC Radio Leicester reporter

In North West Leicestershire it was an exciting night - first it looked like the Conservatives were going to lose control but it ended up with them only losing a total of five seats.

They now have 20 councillors there - Labour have 10 but not all necessarily in the same seats.

    Count at North West Leicestershire

The Lib Dems picked up three new seats and the Green Party have what I think is their first seat in the district.

Despite the worrying start, the Conservative leader Richard Blunt held his nerve.

After the count he told me: "It's a very strange election for a midterm. With Brexit around you couldn't walk into the room and work out what's going to happen.

"To come out with our fourth straight victory, have 20 seats when the nearest party have 10, clearly means we're in the driving seat to get on with projects."

  16. Brand new councillors join Bolsover authoritypublished at 10:02 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    Liz Roberts
    Political Reporter, BBC Radio Sheffield

It was an unbelievable result in Bolsover where the council goes to no overall control with Labour losing almost HALF its seats from 32 to 18 - mainly to independents.

By my calculation (and I'm not great at maths) there are now 20 brand new councillors and 17 with previous experience.

Two of the Labour wins were in an uncontested seat - I bet they're thanking their lucky stars.

  17. Rushcliffe count has begunpublished at 10:02 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

We’re under way for the election count in Rushcliffe.

The council is currently controlled by the Conservatives, with 23 seats being the magic number to take control.

  19. Councillor gone in 'Brexit protest vote'published at 09:49 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    BBC Radio Derby

Labour have had a bad night in Derby - they've lost six seats.

The Conservatives have become the largest party in the city but no party has a majority, meaning there'll need to be negotiations to decide who'll control the city.

    Chris Poulter

The Conservatives lost one seat in the city but gained two. Their leader believes Brexit was clearly on the minds of voters.

Chris Poulter said: "It was bound to have an effect.

"Unfortunately we've lost one great councillor on the back of a Brexit protest vote - that's unfortunate but overall we're delighted with what's happened."

  20. Brexit confusion blamed for Labour losspublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    BBC Radio Nottingham

The Labour leader of Ashfield District Council feels the party has been punished for confusion over its position on Brexit.

Cheryl Butler lost her seat in yesterday's local election. She told the BBC it is now time for her party to back a confirmatory referendum.

She said: "I think it's time that decisions are made. I voted to remain and I think that we need to look at a way forward and I think for me that is a vote on the deal."
