    Plans submitted to Derby City Council propose to develop Queens Hall into a block of flats.

    Bits of the old Rock City dance floor have gone on sale to people who signed up in advance expressing interest in owning a piece of the Nottingham music venue.

    There are only 5,000 pieces available and 15,000 people signed up with an interest in buying one.

    Bigger pieces cost £37.50 and smaller pieces cost £27.50.They will go on general sale on Friday 10 May if they are not already sold out.

    AJ Stevenson, from Rock City, told the BBC: “We took up our old floor and we had lots of pieces of various sizes and quality.

    “It is an old floor. It has been there for a while. We do lots of gigs as well as club nights. It has had alcohol, sweat and various things on it.

    “We worked with a local craftsman - working by himself he has cleaned them up and cut them into even sizes and put our logo on.”

    It's easy to guess that people may have taken this opportunity to express their annoyance with politicians, particularly from the two main parties.

    It's more difficult to predict perhaps how they've taken that annoyance out - either by not voting or by turning up and drawing rude things on the ballot paper.

    In Hinckley and Bosworth there were 2,669 spoilt ballots counted. That's a big number.

    Liberal Democrats have retaken control of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough, four years after the Conservatives took it from them.

    Stuart Bray is leader of the Lib Dem group in Hinckley - he thinks their win is more than just a Brexit protest.

    He said: "People are very fed up with the inflation busting council tax rises - it's gone up by the maximum allowed by law each of their four years.

    "In particular concern is the amount of development that is being proposed in this area over the next few years with very little improvement to services."

    Nottingham Independents only formed in January last year - now they're the second largest party in the city.

    Councillor Kevin Clarke, one of three independent councillors elected in Clifton East, said: "We work in the community and we represent the community.

    Ashfield Independents enjoyed a hugely successful night, securing 30 out of 35 seats at Ashfield District Council.

    Leader Jason Zadrozny told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Politics has been a bit of a mess in Ashfield for the last few years but this is a vindication of what we've done over the last year.

    "We've worked damn hard to show that we can make a difference to all our towns and Ashfield Independents have done that in spectacular style tonight."

    The Conservatives have lost their majority on Broxtowe Borough Council.

    They lost seats to the Lib Dems, Ashfield Independents and Labour.

    But the death of a candidate means it could be six weeks until control of the council is established.

    Labour has lost control of Bolsover District Council.

    The party lost 14 seats, meaning it now has 18 councillors, one short of the required majority and leaving the authority with no overall control.

    There are now 16 independent councillors, up from five previously.

    The Conservatives won two seats while Lib Dems picked up one.

    The Conservatives have held Derbyshire Dales but with a reduced majority of just one.

    Reflecting the mood across England, the Liberal Democrats picked up five new seats bringing their total to eight, making it the largest opposition party.

    Labour also picked up one extra seat and now has five councillors. There is one extra independent and the Greens won two wards.

    The Conservatives have held onto North West Leicestershire District Council, although with a reduced majority.

    The Tories lost five of their 25 seats, while Labour remained unchanged on 10. The Liberal Democrats picked up three new wards while the Greens and independent group enjoyed one extra councillor each.
