    Police are treating the death of a man in Leicester as "unexplained" after a body was found earlier.

    Concerns for a man’s welfare were reported to Leicestershire Police just after 07:00.

    Officers went to the address on London Road where a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have said enquiries into the circumstances of the death are ongoing.

    East Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed it also sent a paramedic in an ambulance car to the property after being called to assist with a "medical emergency".

    Two boys aged 12 and 14 have been arrested after £80,000 worth of damage was caused to a heritage train in Ruddington.

    Windows were smashed in three train carriages at the Great Central Railway Heritage Centre on Monday 29 April.

    Police have said a group of about six boys were disturbed by a volunteer but they fled the scene on bikes.

    Two boys were arrested last night on suspicion of criminal damage. They have been released on conditional bail while the police investigation continues.

    Police have made an appeal to anyone with CCTV in the area who may have captured any useful footage between 17:00 and 19:00.

    A graffiti artist who painted a mural to Leicester City after they won the Premier League has said he'd be prepared to redo it at a different location.

    The mural is on the back of the old Marks Electrical building on King Richards Road but it now has a new owner who is planning to redevelop the site.

    Three years ago Richard Wilson spent a month painting the whole team - including manager Claudio Ranieri.

    He told the BBC having street art destroyed is the "nature of the beast" but he would be prepared to do it again if that was an option.

    "Obviously I would but it's not easy to find a perfect wall and surface like that was," he said.

    Ancient gold necklaces, swords and jars of silver coins have gone on display at a museum in the Peak District.

    It's an exhibition about hoards - valuables and precious items buried to keep them safe in unsettled times.

    Buxton Museum is the only place in the region to host the British Museum collection, which includes Iron Age gold torcs and recent discoveries from the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex.

    Extra security measures have been put in place due to the value of the items.

    Police are searching for 26-year-old Annie Milner who was reported missing in Chesterfield yesterday.

    She was last seen leaving the Greggs store in Burlington Street at about 09:00.

    Derbyshire Police said she usually catches the bus to work in Sheffield but did not turn up yesterday and she hasn't been seen or heard from since.

    A choir of people with dementia has been put together by actress Vicky McClure in memory of her grandmother who lived with the condition and died in 2015.

    The Nottingham actress cared for her nonna and noticed that music, in particular singing together, brought a smile to her face. "When we sang we were all on the same page," she said.

    The 18-strong choir is made up of people living in and around Nottingham, all of whom are living with dementia in one form or another.

    The first episode of Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure will air on BBC One tonight.

    Two of our police forces have been praised for reducing crime and keeping people safe.

    Government inspectors (HMICFRS) looked at how both Leicestershire , externaland Nottinghamshire , externalPolice operate and assessed them in three areas – efficiency, effectiveness and legitimacy.

    The force in Leicestershire was found to be "good" in all three areas but Nottinghamshire Police fell down on efficiency where it was rated "requires improvement".

    The PEEL report said: "I am satisfied with most aspects of Nottinghamshire Police’s performance in keeping people safe and reducing crime.

    "However, the force needs to continue to improve its efficiency in order to provide a consistently good service."

  10. Polling stations open across the East Midlandspublished at 08:39 British Summer Time 2 May 2019

    The polls have opened for local elections across the East Midlands.

    All of the cities, boroughs and districts across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Rutland are involved, as well as the mayoral seats in Leicester and Mansfield.

    Derby City Council and Broxtowe Borough Council are taking part in a voter ID pilot. This means voters in these areas will need to take one form of photo ID or two forms of non-photo ID with them to the polling station to be allowed to vote.

    In North West Leicestershire a similar pilot is happening, but voters will just need to take their polling cards with them.

    Polls are open until 22:00 with some results expected in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

    The theft of life-saving firefighting equipment in Leicester has sparked outrage on our Facebook , externalpage.

    The kit, used to cut people from crashed cars, is thought to be worth about £30,000 and was taken from central fire station on Lancaster Road on Tuesday night.

    Firefighters have been dealing with a blaze at a house in Chesterfield.

    Crews were called to the fire on the ground floor of a terrace property on Cobden Road just after 04:00.

    They reported the ground floor was "well alight" on arrival and the adjacent properties were evacuated.

    A man was taken to hospital in an ambulance after being given "oxygen therapy". Another adult and a teenager were also taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
