    A missing 26-year-old woman who was last seen in Chesterfield Greggs yesterday morning may have travelled to Liverpool yesterday.

    Police believe Annie Milner caught the train there and stayed overnight.

    She is described as white, about 5ft 10ins, of slim build and with long, bleached blonde hair.

    A 38-year-old Chesterfield man has been jailed for more than six years after being found guilty of non-recent child rape.

    Matthew Howell, of Mountcastle Walk, Newbold, was 15 when he attacked his victim, in Derbyshire, in the mid-1990s.

    The woman, who is now in her 20s, was under the age of 10 when she was raped.

    She said: "Telling my mum was a massive relief because it was something that I had carried on my own for many, many years.

    "I did worry that she wouldn't believe me but she did, of course she did."

    Police said Howell led his victim to believe that they were in a relationship and that she could not tell anyone because they would stop them.

    The abuse took place for more than a year.

    Following at trial Derby Crown Court, on Monday, Howell was found guilty of one count of rape of a child under the age of 16.

    He was also convicted of two counts of gross indecency with a child under 14 and two counts of indecent assault of a girl under the age of 14.

    The victim, who cannot be named, said following sentencing: "It's time to have my life back."

    A Worksop dad who tried to fend off burglars with a step ladder in the middle of the night says he has been unable to sleep since the attack.

    The 31-year-old felt he was fighting to protect the lives of his partner and one-year-old baby from the "angry, violent" burglars.

    The man and his 30-year-old partner were hit over the head, and the four intruders left with car keys during the burglary in the Gateford area of Worksop on 23 January.

    Andrew Houghton, 27, pleaded guilty to burglary with aggravating features and was sentenced to six years in jail at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

    Police say they are still working to bring the other offenders to justice.

    Houghton, of no fixed address, was also sentenced to an additional year in prison for matters from Sheffield Crown Court, which include possession of cannabis, possession of a bladed article and aggravated vehicle taking.

    A travel agents in Leicester says our on-off Brexit has encouraged people to be more adventurous when it comes to holidays.

    Manager Mike Cox said: "I think it's enabled people to think a little bit further, a little bit out of the box.

    "I'm trying to find a little nugget of good in Brexit that maybe it's encouraged people to travel and be a bit more adventurous."

    Police are appealing for a man who may be able to help a Derby murder investigation to come forward.

    They believe he could assist them over the death of Simon Jones, 57, who was found injured near Chaddesden Park late on April 20 and died soon after in hospital.

    The man, who they describe as white, in his mid-late thirties and about 6ft tall, is believed to have approached a number of people in the car park at about 17:30 the next day asking if they had lost a set of keys.

    Officers think he had a young boy with him at the time.

    Police said they were not linking him to the crime but want to speak to him as a potential witness.

    Five men have been charged and a number of people arrested.

    A fire at a caravan storage site near Blidworth is being treated as an arson attack.

    The blaze on Old Rufford Road in Oxton on Tuesday 30 April destroyed 70 caravans and damaged about 30 others.

    An investigation by the fire service has found the fire was started deliberately.

    Police are warning the public not to approach a prisoner who has absconded from a Derbyshire jail.

    Scott Millard was convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Wolverhampton Crown Court in November 2006, police said, and was sentenced to an indeterminate prison sentence.

    But on 21 April he absconded from Sudbury open prison and may be heading for the West Midland, where he has links.

    He is described as white, 6ft 6in tall with brown hair and brown eyes.

    He has a number of tattoos including a spider on his left cheek and neck and a crab under his eye.

    Highways England have closed two lanes of the motorway northbound between J21A and J22 while firefighters deal with a car fire on the hard shoulder.

    This is causing some serious traffic all the way back to Leicester, which is expected to continue "for the next hour or so".
