  6. Mum's anger after defibrillator in memory of son stolenpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 27 September 2019

    BBC News Online

The mother of a dead soldier said she is "sad and angry" someone stole a defibrillator installed in his memory.

The defibrillator, put outside the Age Concern building in Warsop, Nottinghamshire, was paid for by funds raised after Pte Lee Bonsall, 24, killed himself in 2012.

His family, including his mother Karen Bonsall, believe he had been suffering from PTSD after seeing a friend die in Afghanistan.

The defibrillator was set up in his memory and has been used several times, but on Saturday, a family friend noticed it had gone missing.

As East Midlands Ambulance Service, who only give out the entry code in emergencies, had no reports of it being used, it is assumed stolen and police have confirmed the incident was reported to them.

Mrs Bonsall told the BBC: "It's horrible that they could stoop so low. When I found out I was upset then angry.

"If someone is in such desperate need, they could have talked to us and we could have helped them without them resorting to stealing. One person taking it could risk lives."
