    There was some disruption on the A50 near the Sudbury roundabout this morning due to a car fire.

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the blaze just after 07:30 and the fire was out by 08:19. No-one was injured.

    The authority said it is due to health and safety reasons.

    The school is open to all other year groups.

    A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after the car she was in went into the River Trent.

    It happened on Hoveringham Road, Hoveringham, at about 16:00 yesterday.

    Police said the road was closed near Ferry Farm Park last night while the car was recovered and asked anyone who witnessed the accident to get in touch with them.

    Police in Derbyshire have issued a warning following reports of scam phone calls about Thomas Cook refunds.

    The travel operator collapsed yesterday resulting in thousands of people having their holidays cancelled.

    Clay Cross Police SNT posted on Facebook: "People are phoning claiming to be from Thomas Cook saying they are giving refunds on holidays that have been purchased.

    "They are asking for card details and the three digit number on back of the card in order to process the refund."

    The force warns: "This is a scam - don't give your bank details to anyone."

    An accident on the M1 has caused five miles of congestion for motorists heading southbound.

    The multi-vehicle crash happened at about 15:00, initially closing three of four lanes between junction 25 for Derby and junction 24 for Nottingham.

    One lane reopened about 30 minutes later but drivers, especially those heading for nearby East Midlands Airport, are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

    There are so far no reports of injuries.

    Detectives investigating the murder of a man stabbed to death in Leicester have urged motorists who were driving along Dysart Way on Saturday to contact the force.

    Mohammed Jibreel, 21, was found injured in the Taylor Road and Kashmir Road area at about 15:00 BST and later died in hospital.

    A post-mortem examination carried out on Monday concluded Mr Jibreel died as a result of a stab wound.

    Leicestershire Police believe Mr Jibreel was involved in an incident with a group of people in this area before the attack.

    Det Ch Insp Tony Yarwood, senior investigating officer at East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "We know from the inquiries we’ve done so far that there were a number of motorists driving along Dysart Way around 3pm.

    "Do you have video recording equipment installed in your vehicles, did you capture any footage which may help us? Any information, no matter how small, could help us identify those responsible."
