  3. Power restored in Malvernpublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    The power is back on at properties in the WR14 postcode, Western Power Distributions says.

    The company cut supplies "in the interests of public safety" after reports to the police that power lines were hanging dangerously low.

    Engineers sent to the scene found that the low-hanging cables were phone lines, and so power was switched back on.

  5. Power cut to homes 'for safety reason' as overhead cables hand lowpublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Power has been cut to homes in Malvern "for safety reasons" after reports to the police that overhead cables were hanging dangerously low in the area, Western Power Distribution say.

    The company say engineers are on their way to assess how dangerous the low-hanging cables are, and that power to homes in the WR14 postcode has been cut off as "a precaution".

    A fall in the number of officers in Worcestershire's two prisons is contributing to the highest-ever levels in violence, suicide and self-injury, according a pressure group.

    The Howard League for Penal Reform, external say it has found the number of front-line staff at HMP Hewell in Redditch and Long Lartin near Evesham has dropped by a fifth since 2013.

  12. Foxes don't make good pets warns charitypublished at 09:04 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    An animal rescue centre in Worcestershire says it is having to take care of foxes which are being first bought as pets for hundreds of pounds and then dumped by their owners. 

    The Vale Wildlife Hospital in Beckford, external says keeping them indoors could be potentially dangerous, for both the animal and humans.

    Thousands of fish around the country, including hundreds in Worcestershire, have died from a severe virus known as fish herpes. 

    Larford Lakes near Stourport (pictured) has been the victim of an outbreak of koi herpes virus this year, and anglers are in part being blamed for not cleaning and disinfecting their nets properly.

    Phil Briscoe, who owns the fishery, says there's a chance the disease could spread to garden ponds.
